Enjoy These Tips for Living a Healthy Life

Enjoy These Tips for Living a Healthy Life
By Deon Du Plessis

What is more important than the way you feel? Is there anything more important? Your physical health, the way your body feels, is probably the most important determining factor in the way you feel. Any feeling, weather it be physical or emotional is experienced through our bodies and by applying these simple tips for living a healthy life, the way you feel will vastly improve.

Psychoneuroimmunology, the science of the mind-body relationship, has now produced scientific evidence of the effect of your mind on your body and vice versa. Depressed people use their bodies in a certain way that causes them to feel depressed and by just changing simple things like their facial expressions, studies have shown, they can literally change the way they feel instantly.

The significance of this fact is that it proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that our physical bodies have a tremendous effect on the way we feel both physically and emotionally. The one thing we are all pursuing in life is happiness and happiness is nothing but feeling good. By following some basic tips for living a healthy life we can make significant changes in the way we feel physically, emotionally and mentally.

We've all heard the clich a healthy body houses a healthy mind and thanks to scientific research we now know this for a fact. Also, the opposite is equally true: a healthy mind equals a healthy body. If we learn to be in control of our emotional association to food, we will automatically take care of our bodies. The instant satisfaction we get from junk food caused a lot of people to make pleasurable association (in their subconscious minds) to these foods that lead to overeating and addiction.

Living a healthy life starts with your body. If you take care of your body you will develop that sense of pride in yourself and the consequently the way you feel about yourself (or your self esteem).

With this in mind, let me offer you some very simple and basic tips for living a healthy life. Firstly, realize the importance of oxygen to your body and your health. Breathing is not just to get oxygen to our vital organs. Every cell in your body requires oxygen for it's survival and health.

You are only as healthy as the cells in your body. In order to fully oxygenate our bodies we must learn to breathe deeply, fully and effectively. Deep, diaphragmatic breaths will, apart from oxygenating your system, stimulate the movement of lymph fluid through the body. Lymph is the body's natural cleansing system, essential to keeping your cells free from toxins and maintaining a healthy environment for the cells of your body to live in. To breathe properly you must breathe in the following ratio: inhale(1) : hold(2) : exhale(4). For example inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 8 seconds and exhale for 16 seconds. Doing this simple exercise with 10 deep breaths 5 times a day will vastly increase your health, your energy and help maintain a healthy immune system.

Secondly, understand the importance of water to your body and health. Our bodies consist mainly of fluids and water, along with oxygen is the basis of all life. Taking sufficient amounts of water is essential for health and life, but also we need to avoid foods that drain our bodies from vital fluids. Foods that are high in sugar, salt, caffeine and preservatives will actually absorb fluids from your body causing certain vital functions to shut down. Eating foods that are naturally rich in water is essential and include all fruits, vegetables and sprouts.

Your body is your temple and what you put in is what you get out. Stop abusing it and adhere to these simple tips for living a healthy life. The very least you must do to life a healthy life is to stop depriving your body from the two most essential element, water and oxygen.

Applying these simple tips for living a healthy life will vastly improve your health and consequently the way you feel. When we feel good life is a pleasure and we suck from it all the juice. Life is a gift and know that tomorrow is not promised to you. Live everyday like it's your last and constantly seek out tips for living a healthy life and improving yourself and the quality of your life. It's all out there and the only thing that is required to have whatever you want from life is for you to go and get it. Just do it and do it with passion and joy.

Your Child's Health

Your Child's Health
By Yana Mikheeva

Your child eats too little or, on the contrary, too much, he sleeps bad or has sudden fits of anger as a rule, this worries careful parents, the rest are just giving up on it: why bother because of small things! And meanwhile, some peculiarities of behavior and state of a childs organism give warning of his predisposition to these or those diseases or even of their development long before a doctor diagnoses them.

Usually parents pay attention to a childs body temperature: if it is normal then everything is ok, high he should take aspirin. However, it is not so simple. For example, temperature raises, and hands are cold like ice. This tells about a spasm of peripheral blood vessels. And, besides aspirin, it would be good to give an injection of analgin, diphenylhydramine and nicotinic acid a vitamin, dilating small blood vessels.

If a babys hands are always cold, this tells that excitability of his nervous system is heightened. In general, defect of heat regulation tells about vulnerability of a children organism, inability of its nervous system to cope with stresses. This concerns also such peculiarity of a baby, as sweatiness. Palms that are always wet, underwear that is covered with sweat, even if there were no any active games, - this is a signal of some defects in nervous regulation of organism. Other signs also testify to a state, close to neurosis, - a baby likes fingering something, biting nails, starts often suddenly, speaks while sleeping (dont worry, if this happens from time to time, but if this repeats every night, then there is sense to consult a neuropathologist).

If a child is always nervy, excitable, if it is difficult for you to carry him away with a game, and having started a game, he already cannot stop, falls into a reverie, reacts to attempts to interfere aggressively, goes into long hysterics, then you should not allege on his bad character these are symptoms of heightened intracranial pressure. Such child should be observed by neuropathologist constantly. Defects of thyroid glands work also may cause excessive excitability of nervous system. And you baby also may have rapid pulse. Slightly bulging eyes also tell about excess of hormones of thyroid gland. In this case you should consult endocrinologist. Old school doctors started examination with a request to show ones tongue, even if a person suffered from back or stomach pains. Tongue is a mirror of alimentary canal, all our diseases are pictured on it, not worse, than on a prescription blank.

If there is a constant yellow or white fur on a tongue, this testifies to defect of stomachs or bowels work. So-called geographic patterns on a tongue also should put you on your guard, they often are observed after long taking of antibiotics or while dysbacteriosis, lack of wholesome bacteria, populating it.

Your childs skin also can tell a lot about his organism state. Thus, while dysbacteriosis it is dry, peels off, allergic rash often appears on it. If lips are dry and chaps, this may happen due to serious defects of stomachs and bowels work. So-called marble skin pale, with clear drawing of small veins, situated close to skin surface, slightly spotty, also should put you on your guard. Quite probably, there are defects in your childs involuntary nervous systems work, which controls work of our internal automatically. This may lead to quick fatiguability, irritability, headaches.

Shadows under eyes testify to lack of iron or some vitamins in a childs organism. If sacks are formed under lower eyelids, dont hurry to make a conclusion about bad work of kidneys probably, this is just a peculiarity of hypoderm.

Pay attention to nails during teen age period they can crumble, white lags are formed on them, which signal of lack of calcium in organism. Its lack also influences state of teeth. In general, teeth are an index of the whole osseous systems state in organism. If something is wrong with them, then a childs bones have same problems.

Most often parents pay attention to very obvious things: for example, appetite and sleep. Does bad appetite tells of something? Of course, as this is a reflection of general state of a babys nervous system, its balance, comfort.

If a chills is a so-called bag of bones, has shadows under eyes, he catches cold often, you may suspect of his susceptibility to tuberculosis and in this case you need to consult phthisiatrician urgently. However, if a child eats a lot, regardless of his physical activity, and does not gain weight, this may tell about presence of worms or some psychological problems. Appetite should correspond to energy organism spends, and when a child is not mobile, likes playing quiet games, you should not worry he eats little. If, on the contrary, he is rushing about during whole day and comes back home with his tongue hanging out, most likely, you will not have to persuade him eat properly.

A childs bad sleep also worries parents. Most often healthy children dont awake in the night, but can fall asleep nor so quickly. Think whether your child sticks to a certain day schedule, goes to bed in a certain hour, watches scary cartoons or thrillers before going to bed, sitting evenings away at computer. All this excites a childs nervous system, confuses his biorhythms.

Back to School Shoes Give Your Child a Healthy Start

Back to School Shoes - Give Your Child a Healthy Start
By Tricia Salcido

Those lazy, barefoot summer days are coming to an endtime to shop for those back-to-school shoes. No doubt your kids feet have grown quite a bit (again), but getting a larger shoe should be just part of your checklist. Leading childrens podiatrists agree that choosing the proper footwear for your kids is a decision that will impact the lifelong health of your child. Good footwear not only fits, but allows your childrens toes to spread and foot to form naturally. Shoes that mold your childs foot to a contoured foot bed with arches can actually damage your childs foot, causing problems with arch pain or weak ankles that crop up in adulthood when we reach our full body weight.

FOOTBINDING IS OUT

Our feet are wonderfully complex structures with 26 bones and 126 muscles and ligaments. When born, a childs foot is quite malleable and the bones do not fully ossify until age 9. Foot bones actually function more like cartilage for those first 9 years. An extreme example of how moldable our feet are at young ages is the now-defunct tradition of Chinese foot binding. Because tiny feet were considered beautiful, young girls feet were essentially folded in half by tight bindings, deforming and often crippling them. Putting your childs feet in stiff, contoured shoes is a much less severe, but nonetheless similar process.

BAREFOOT IS BEST

The best thing that can be done for the healthy development of feet is to maximize the time your children spend barefoot. All podiatrists agree this is the best for developing strong, athletic feet and improving your sense of balance and posture. (This is true for adults, as well!) The second best is to purchase shoes that allow feet to move freely and breathe naturally.

Consider these tips when shopping:

  • Soft, flexible soles that bend easily in the middle when bending the toe towards the heel. Many soles only bend in the toe -- make sure they bend where the foot arches. Choose soft soles that mold to your childs foot rather than soles that force your childs foot to mold to the shoe.
  • Flat soles with no arch supports are best to simulate barefoot conditions. The lighter, the better!
  • Ample room for toes. True childrens shoes are much fatter in the toes than adult shoes as their feet dont narrow out until adolescence. Shoes should be loose around the toes.
  • Soft, flexible uppers that breathe. Uppers made of natural, absorbing cloth or leather are preferable to synthetic material.

Your Good Health is Priceless Even if it Seems Too Expensive in Today's Dollars

Your Good Health is Priceless Even if it Seems Too Expensive in Today's Dollars
By Trevor Adheen

Sandy sold her $1,500.00 boat she had for over 5 years to Ross who was willing to pay $1,000.00 more than the value of this boat. Sandy was joyous to off load her aged boat for $2,500.00. But, there was a catch. Ross was willing to pay $50 a month for 50 months until paid. Sandy thought she pulled off a good deal. But, was it?

Why Ross wanted to pay only this amount? The answer lies in the Present Value of a Dollar.

You see, a dollar today is worth more than the same dollar, years down the road. The dollar today will have less purchasing power as time passes, especially when it is a long time from now. But, Sandy did not know that, and thought that she was getting a very good deal. Instead she was going to be paid with a declining dollar.

Likewise, your health can be regarded as having a higher value today than in the future. The more you care for your body today, the more it will serve you well tomorrow. Your longevity would be more promising in the future if you do not live carelessly today. I have seen 40 year old bodies looking like 60 year olds, mostly because of abuse.

It is all well and good to exercise and get flexible, eat well, and sleep well, to stay in good health But, that alone may not be enough to melt the fat accumulation you body may be prone to be... For this, youll need specialized training and fitness equipment, dumbbells, weight training devices, or decide that you want to be private so you get a home gym etc.

But, would you be cutting yourself short buy accepting declining dollars to maximize your bodys health?

Would you look for the bottom of the line equipment cheap ones --or the very best built ones that cost a little more? Exercising with a cheap flex machine can bust a strand in the middle of the stretched position and snap back like a rubber and damage your ligament. This may take a long time to heal or never heal and youll have to live with a deformity, perhaps for life.

And, as with any other exercise equipment, the nuts that hold the weight together can become loose causing a weight to fall off and smash your toes; a machined part might break off because of a poor weld at a joint on the machine causing you too strain your back or muscle that leaves you crippled for life. And, could you imagine what pain and agony you would have to endure forth rest of your life when these mishaps occur to your body because you thought it was prudent to buy cheap exercise equipment?

If this is your thinking, then you are not taking full advantage of the principles of the Present Value of a Dollar---you are not taking full advantage of the Present Value of your Life.

Your life is worth more today than many years down the road. You must do all your can for your body today to keep it in tip top shape so youll enjoy your life more now and continue to do so as times passes.

So, you want quality health. You get that with quality equipment ergonomically safe light but strong. So, give your body quality attention. Focus on the one and only body you have so you enjoy the best of life.

You have a very good deal today-- Present ValueTake it--it is like money in the bank. The future is an imagination of what it could be.

Preserve and protect your body starting now.

Marketing To Healthcare Industry: Selling Pharma Products To Doctor

Marketing To Healthcare Industry: Selling Pharma Products To Doctor
By Alexander Gordon

Marketing healthcare products to physicians requires tact and skill. Trust is very important, since physicians are always on the lookout for reliable sources of information on healthcare products. Marketing healthcare products also needs some basic knowledge of clinical evidence, as well as a good sales pitch.

Since many representatives of the pharmacy industry to endorse products approach doctors, you need to be able to convince them about the efficacy of your products. If the sales pitch is overdone, doctors may get annoyed and refuse to listen to you.

Effective Tips for Marketing Healthcare Products:

Here are some ways to convince doctors about the efficacy of your healthcare products.

1)Tone down the sales pitch and provide authentic information. Give as much scientific data and information on clinical trials as you can.

2)Apart from face to face interaction, offer information through the Internet, email, mobile phones, print media and television and radio broadcasts.

3)E-detailing is another method of selling healthcare products to physicians. It involves electronic communication between physicians and sales representatives.

4)Offering online information is another way to market to the healthcare industry. Many doctors use online resources to keep track of the latest developments in the field.

5)Some healthcare companies also organize fairs that let physicians meet patients. This is a good chance for the pharma industry to market itself.

6)The Epocrates mobile service provides doctors instant answers to their healthcare related queries. Alerts are sent to physicians when a response to the query is available.

How to Market Healthcare Industry Online:

Online marketing is the latest in the marketing strategies of the healthcare products related industry. Your website must provide the latest, authentic information when marketing to healthcare professionals. Here are some points to keep in mind when selling to physicians online.

1)Combine the sales pitch with facts when presenting your products online.

2)Team with vendors who are trusted by doctors.

3)Market your products on websites that are trusted by doctors.

4)The website should be well maintained and offer the latest information on clinical trials and anything else of interest to doctors.

Physicians are always on the lookout for credible information on the latest healthcare products. You should do your research well when presenting your products to doctors, since they are critical about overt sales pitch and little information. In order to market your products, you need to convince doctors about the quality of the products. Use the latest marketing tools like Internet, mobile devices and telephonic marketing in order to sell healthcare products to physicians. You can approach a business consultant for advice if you need to know more about marketing healthcare products to doctors, as well as to the public.

Take Control of Your Aging Health

Take Control of Your Aging Health
By Marge Pickering Picone

When you become an aging baby boomer the last thing you want to experience is the side effects. The stiff joints, aching low back, fatigue and memory problems starting to creep up out of no where. The ability to multi task is slowly diminishing. The ease of bending to put on your socks and shoes and forget womens pantyhose is a distant memory. You look in the mirror and wonder how you got here.

So stop right there. Take back control of your life. Some think it is easier said than done. Not so, take it one step at a time. Health over fifty becomes your own personal responsibility. What you eat is just as important (if not more) now than twenty years ago. Just because you strayed from eating properly until now doesnt mean you should give up and just rely on medicine. You can find better ways to eat, exercise for your ability and eliminate some of those bad habits. Turn your life into a new hobby and put the failure thoughts out in the trash.

Instead of trying to tackle all aspects of your life, try one step in each category per week and let your motivation to succeed take over. Each week do one more positive thing to improve the enjoyment of the age you are. If you sit and whine about where you used to be those moments of now will pass you by. Youre not going to get younger in chronological aging but you can get more youthful in your movements, looks, thoughts and health issues. Here are 10 Simple steps you can do starting today:
1.Park your car 3 spaces farther away than you do now and walk.
2.Eat fish 1 more meal per week than you do already.
3.Do stretching exercises or yoga (lots of discomfort feels like bone but is tight muscles.)
4.Add 2 glasses of water per day to get closer to your needed body amount of at least 8 8 ounce glasses per day.
5.Eliminate the starch from one meal of your diet and exchange it for vegetables and fruits.
6.Drink 1 less alcoholic drink than you normally do.
7.Lower your cigarette smoking by 1 cigarette less each day until you can quit.
8.Forgive yourself or someone else of a wrongful deed.
9.Compliment yourself for doing 5 positive things for yourself each day before bed.
10.Get to bed at a decent time to achieve 7 to 8 hours of sleep.late shows on TV can wait for weekends or use the recorder to watch at a better hour.

Health over fifty does not need to be a chore. Do something to improve your life. Smile at the reflection in the mirror and you will start to smile at others as well. Your life isnt just about everyone else and their needs. Your health, youthfulness, flexibility and quality is about you and what you are willing to do for the most important person in your lifeyou.

Enjoy!

5 Ways To Have Stronger More Physically Fit Children They Will be Happier and Healthier

5 Ways To Have Stronger More Physically Fit Children - They Will be Happier and Healthier
By Everte Farnell

As many of you know, my book The Barbarian's Guide to Success talks about not only making more money, but it also talks about having a successful family. Part of a successful family, is having successful children.

I was talking to a Phys. Ed. coach in a public school the other day. He was telling me some amazing things about the children he coaches. Apparently most of the children are in horrible shape. He was telling me that he has children twist their ankles when running on the track on a regular basis. Most have problems with any physical activity.

I heard a story on the news a few months ago that said the Army had to change its workout program in basic training because new recruits were getting stress fractures from the exercise. Now folks, all they do in calisthenics. Push ups and sit ups and jumping jacks. Stress fractures from that!

When I was a child we had to run laps regularly. We played hard, and were embarrassed to ask to go to the nurse. If one of us had to go to the nurse from running on the track we would have never lived it down.

My point is not that children should make fun of each other, but that many of our children are wimps.

I read an article a few years ago about how attitudes toward child rearing are changing. According to the article, fathers traditionally encouraged children to do things that were physical and mothers, traditionally, wanted to protect children from the potential harm that comes with such activity. I know this is not 100% true, as my mother encouraged me to play sports if I wanted to, but the article did say in general. According to the article, fathers are not encouraging their children as much. They are trying to protect the children more, much like what mother traditionally do. The result, kids that do very little or no exercising. Children that complain at the mildest ache or pain. In short, out of shape wimps. I did not believe it, but it seems to be coming true.

Now I know that you don't want your child to be a wimp, so here are a few things to help get them in batter shape:

1.Throw out the video games and turn the boob tube off. To many kids are spending to much time in front of the TV.

2.Cook meals and keep tabs on what your child eats. I know it is hard sometimes, but if you don't keep track they will be eating nothing but honey buns and Ho-Ho's. BTW Boston Market's non-fried chicken is as bad or worse than other restaurants. Eating out should be a treat not the norm. Cook a meal and sit down as a family and eat. Your children will be healthier, both physically and mentally.

3. Along the lines of number 2, pack a lunch. School lunches are the worst and most children eat out of a vending machine at school. Take a few minutes and pack a lunch, its worth it. They'll do better in school and be healthier and happier.

4.Teach your younger children to ride their bike and make your older ones play some sports. The older kids don't have to be sports stars, but make them play tennis or swim or SOMETHING.

5. Kick the kids out of the house. Make them go out and play. To many children spend to much time indoors. Too much sun is harmful, but too little is as well, Savvy?!?

So make the kids get stronger. Make them run and play. Forget the video games. If they want to shoot something they can do it with cap guns. (Don't tell me about the teen shooting stories on the news. Every single one of my friends and I played with cap guns and none of us killed someone. The problem with those kids ain't toy guns, it is something way more serious.)

At the end of the day, make them move. They need it.

And with that I will say

Get the Barbarian Mind Set and keep it. Stay tr to yourself and your family, the rest will take care of itself.

Cleaning Tips for a Healthy Home and Body

Cleaning Tips for a Healthy Home and Body
By Angie Black

When spring cleaning time comes round, it's important to remember these basic cleaning tips. To ensure you are doing more good than harm, you must be aware of your environment and what it means to have a safe home. Many people have become 'brainwashed' into believing that being clean has a chemical smell. The smell of your fabric conditioner, air freshener and all purpose cleaner are all chemical smells and should not be associated with a 'clean' smell. The truth is there is no such thing as a clean smell. Fresh air is the cleanest smell you can get. The following cleaning tips have been written to guide you in your spring cleaning mission as well as your everyday cleaning.

▪ To eliminate odors, you can use 1/4 cup of white Vinegar and a cup of water. Bring toboil and allow to simmer for about 30 mins to an hour. - A completely natural way of eliminating odors in your home.

▪ If you have wooden floors, you can clean them with tea! Use 2 tea bags per cup of hot water and allow to cool. - No need to rinse.

If you want to deodorize your fridge, use baking soda.

▪ Baking soda is great general natural cleaner.

▪ Lemon juice is natures own disinfectant.

The following cleaning tips are things to avoid in your spring cleaning.

▪ Never use air fresheners. They contain dangerous chemicals and are not good for your health. They also have no real purpose unless you believe that your home requires a chemical smell to be clean.

▪ Don't use scented products. This includes anything which contains a fragrance.

▪ Do not use pesticides, fungicides, herbicides or fertilizers. They are very toxic. Instead you can use diatomaceous earth, nematodes and boric acid. See your health food shop or pet store for supplies.

▪ Do not use cleaning products which contain toxic chemicals. There are plenty of natural alternatives available.

It is a fact that the air inside the average home is more toxic than the outside air, even in the most polluted cities. The above tips will help to reduce the toxins in your home. To further improve the air quality in your home, the following tips should help.

▪ Invest in an indoor plant! A number of plants are known for their ability to remove toxins from the air. These include: English Ivy, Aloe Vera, Boston fern, Spider plants, Golden pathos and Philodendrons.

▪ Open the windows! - Especially when cleaning.

▪ Don't use fabric conditioners. There are some natural fabric conditioners available or you can use baking soda. Also avoid dryer sheets.

▪ Use natural, fragrance free cosmetics.
Avoid Hairsprays - use plain Aloe Vera gel.
Avoid scented deodorant sprays - Use mineral crystal stones (or spray) or any unscented, petroleum free products.
Use an unscented shampoo and soap - best if they do not contain sodium laurel sulphate or propylene glycol.
Essential oils are the best form of fragrances as they are natural, non-toxic substances.

Branching away from our 'cleaning tips' topic, there are a few other guidelines that you should try to stick to.

▪ Try to eat organic foods - free of harmful chemicals.

▪ Wear only natural fiber clothes. Never purchase 'anti wrinkle' or 'permanent press' garments. These clothes have been treated with dangerous chemicals that do not wash out.

Hopefully, these cleaning tips and more have given you an idea of how to proceed with your spring cleaning tasks. Remember that everything that you breathe in and everything that comes in contact with your skin is being absorbed into your body. If a product is not fit to eat, than you shouldn't really be in contact with it.

Happy cleaning! its great exercise and is often more fun with music. Put on your favorite dance music and get ready to burn some calories!

Make Eating Healthy Foods Fun

Make Eating Healthy Foods Fun
By Kadence Buchanan

Children everywhere in the world have an on-going love affair with junk food such as hamburgers, pizza, candy, soda and salty foods like potato chips and french fries. Unfortunately, it's hard to find a single child who has these same strong feeling for the healthy food that they need such as grains, vegetables, fruits and foods reach in nutrients such as meat, beans, fish and nuts.

Fortunately, there is one tied and tested strategy to make kids eat the kind of healthy food that some of them may not want -- that's by making it fun.

That's right, make eating healthy food fun. And how do you do that? Here are some tips:

(1) The Sneak Attack. Try sneaking in some of those fruits and vegetables along with the kind of food they like, say, making muffins out of bananas or apples. There are lots of vegetables the you can throw in when you're serving the kids pizza. You could also make them look funny by arranging them creatively on a plate or making them stand up like people. Sure, some people don't want their kids playing with food, but if it will help them get healthier, it may be worth the effort.

(2) Funny Name Game. If your kids are below the age of four, here's a nifty trick that gets them every time. Give the fruits and vegetables funny names and concoct elaborate stories. Some stories will end with these funny-named vegetables getting swallowed alive by the giant child. In another version, the vegetables run for cover and hide from their enemies by entering a big cave that happens to be your child's mouth where they quickly get gulped down.

(3) The Taste Test. Kids dislike vegetables because they don't like the taste. Therefore, make the healthy foods taste better and your child will love them. For instance, put peanut butter on celery or add a dash of flavor to broccoli with ranch dressing. I'm sure you can think of dozens of ways to spruce up healthy food.

The key is to find creative ways to make your children enjoy eating healthy food. And once they've acquired a taste for it, eating healthy foods will be second nature to them.

Simple Tips for Good Health

Simple Tips for Good Health
By Lucy Denim

Many people take for granted very simple ways to healthy living and eating. Our foods are full of toxins, chemicals and preservatives so when you eat try to think natural which is the best way to know your eating right.

If we go back thousands of years when man had no supermarkets and no packaged goods but just simple food then we can relate that to how we should be eating in the 21st century. Back then man would eat food straight from the fruit trees, vegetables that have no chemicals in the soil and free of pesticide spray. Men and women would have been much healthier as they would have also had to work hard to gather their food and we all know that exercise is a vital part of healthy living.

Instead of buying your vegetables from the supermarket which are usually full of chemicals and pesticides consider taking a visit to your small local fresh fruit & vegetable store. Not all of these small fresh fruit & vegetable stores are are that much better as many of them still buy their stock from the same growers as the supermarket chains. The best way to judge if the produce is free from toxins & chemicals is to take it in your hand and take a look at the produce. Study the leafs in greens, do they have a look of been nearly perfect and pest free? If the leaves looks like they have had some harmless insects nibbling at the leaves then thats a good sign the produce has not been sprayed. Do the tomatoes looks pale and without blemishes? If so they have been grown in a hothouse artificially. You are the best judge, use your own discretion and ask the shop keeper directly if the produce is organic and free of sprays & chemicals.

You can also find particular sections in supermarkets & fresh fruit & vegetable stores that cater especially for organic foods which is probably one of the best guarantees that the food is free of toxins. You can also find fresh fruit & vegetable stores that only sell organic foods which is usually the best places to buy.

Eggs are another food source we all need but can be unhealthy to eat due to the chickens been bred in cages and they get no exercise and the eggs contain traces of chemicals from the artificially produced eggs. The eggs also have less natural vitamins, minerals and proteins so we don't get the full benefits of what natural eggs would normally contain. To be assured your eggs are going to be good for you then buy farm range eggs that are organically grown.

How many of us buy white sugar or use white sugar when buying a drink from a caf? Most likely over 80% of us... Instead of having white sugar which is very bad for our health when too much of it is consumed, buy raw sugar which is less refined or even better use honey to sweeten your drinks and food. Honey is a very healthy food but make sure you buy it unfiltered and honey that has not gone through any processing or heating. The best place to buy honey is straight from the owners of bee hives. If you do have to buy your honey from a store then look for a dark natural color with traces of honey comb and read the label.

Another over consumed everyday food source is salt, apparently most people eat 2 sacks of salt a year more than they need. That is an awful lot of salt but its in nearly every packaged food and nearly all foods from your local restaurant, cafs or fast food outlet. Aways insist on salt free food when buying from these places and most restaurant & cafs will be happy to prepare a special dish free of salt for you although at a slightly higher price but it's well worth it. We all need some salt but not so much, only use natural sea salt or kelp in our meals and do so moderately.

10 Tips to Maintain Health and Beauty

10 Tips to Maintain Health and Beauty
By Paul W Wilson

Beauty, health, and nutrition are all integrated. If you eat a balanced diet you will be able to maintain your physique and glowing beauty externally and good health internally. A balanced diet is one that provides all the nutrients you need, the right amount of proteins, carbohydrates, and fat.

To achieve goals you need to ensure a good balance in your diet, introduce variety into your meals, and practice moderation. The basis of nutrition lies in your height, weight, dimensions, and your daily energy needs. Once you know this you can compute what your daily calorific needs are and set goals for weight maintenance, gain, or loss. By regulating your diet you can be active as well as happy.

You must:

1.Eat sensibly. Include a variety of foods in your diet such that the 40 nutrients that are required by your body are present. Make use of a food pyramid and calorie chart to prepare tasty and nutritious meals. Follow the Dietary Guidelines for Americans issued each year.

2.Eat plenty of whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. They will supply you with essential vitamins, minerals, and protection from several diseases.

3.Maintain your weight at a healthy level. Successful weight management is one of the golden keys to good health. By doing is you will lower considerably the risk of many diseases like hypertension, diabetes, heart diseases, cancer, and osteoporosis.

4.Learn self control, eat moderate portions. The secret lies in eating everything but in small portions. Dont give way to gluttony or greed.

5.Make a time-table for your meals and how many calories will be in each meal. Never fast, starve yourself, or skip a meal. Eat when your body demands sustenance but not huge quantities.

6.Practice moderation. Good health does not lie in eliminating carbohydrates or fats. Include all your favorite foods but balance them with the rest of your diet. If you indulge your taste buds by eating pizza one day, then try and do so at lunch time, never eat pizza late at night. Ask for low fat cheese and healthy toppings. Eat just enough to satisfy your craving not all 12 slices. Get a few friends to share you sin. The days you indulge, eat sensibly the rest of the daysalads and fruits will help you make up for the binge.

7.Be sure your meals each day include all the food groups.

8.Plan to exercise every day. Either walk or take up aerobics, dancercise, or join a gym. Exercise will not just burn calories but put a glow into your skin, tone your muscles, and strengthen your bones. Exercise also removes accumulated toxins from your body.

9.Maintain a dairy in which you record your goals, and what you eat each day. Review your week objectively and create a table that shows at a glance what you did right and what you did wrong. This will help keep you on the right track.

10.Celebrate each victory. Give yourself a present or take yourself out every time you achieve a goal.

By eating healthy, one can live a complete and rounded life without diseases, reduce stress greatly, look and feel great, be happy from within and without, age well, produce healthy progeny, and live life to the fullest.

Three Simple Tips For A Healthy And Happier Family

Three Simple Tips For A Healthy And Happier Family
By Dr. Charles Sophy

What is family? Check any dictionary and youll define family as a group of persons sharing common ancestry. But a family is so much more than a simple biological relation to another person. A family can also be two or more people who share goals and values and have long-term commitments to one another.

At its core, a family is a social group that must be nurtured and maintained in order to grow and thrive. As with all social groups, communication and interaction in the form of a communal gathering are integral to survival.

The concept of the family gathering has been in existence for millennia. Its not a modern creation but rooted in the traditions and histories of our own particular cultures and ancestry. A family gathering, whether its a daily shared meal, a special gathering over the holidays or Sunday visits with grandparents, has an impact on the development of our family units and us as individuals within the unit.

Family gatherings are the cornerstone of successful and happy families and we all need to work to include communal activities as part of our daily family routine. The gathering does not have to be a formal affair that includes every cousin, Aunt or Uncle you have. A simple meal together with your immediate family unit can provide a vehicle for communication that otherwise may not get to be expressed.

Lets gather at Olivers home:

Oliver, at ten, is the oldest of three children. He has a 4-year old sister and a 5-year old brother. Oliver is a warm and friendly child with a gentle nature. Never one to antagonize his peers, Oliver has become increasingly aggressive and confrontational with his peers. Over a six month period, Olivers behavior has deteriorated to the point where he became isolated from his peers his play dates have virtually disappeared and he spends most of his weekends sitting in front of his Nintendo playing by himself, rather than engaging in activities with his siblings. Both Mom and Dad noticed a change in his behavior yet attempts to discuss the matter with Oliver were met with I dont know replies.

When Olivers deteriorating behavior began to translate to his school work, Mom and Dads anxiety over the welfare of their child reached critical levels and they sought help.

Through individual and group sessions, it was discovered that a vital piece of the family dynamic was missing from the portrait. With a young and growing family, Dad works until 7-8 pm each evening. Mom usually has dinner on the table @ 6pm but does not dine with them, preferring to wait until her husband returns. Due to Dads hours, Dad rarely has dinner with his family. In fact, they almost never had a meal as a family.

Oliver is at a critical stage in his development when he will slowly explore his independence from his family. It is important that the comfort of home and the closeness of the family continue to engage Oliver and provide him with guidance and direction as he moves into his teenage years.

Olivers deteriorating behavior is a warning signal that he is reacting to a family unit that he was not particularly connected to and that he was losing interest and direction.

To re-engage Oliver in the family, Mom and Dad began a regular family meal each evening, allowing that time to be a place where all could vent and discuss the events of their day and any other issues etc that they felt they needed to share. Not only did the regular meals allow Oliver the opportunity to share his life, it also allowed him to make his parents aware of homework challenges and together they worked to clarify difficult concepts and engaged in extra practice homework.

Having a supportive and loving forum that all members of the family had a lasting impact deepening their relationships and increasing their self-confidence.

Here are three simple tips you can use today to increase Family Happiness:

1. Assess Take a look at your family know each ones strengths/weakness

2. Connect Be aware of how connected your family is to each other

3. Construct A forum for your family to share feelings and issues on a regular basis

Keeping Your Family Daycare Clean and Healthy

Keeping Your Family Daycare Clean and Healthy
By Christine Groth

One of the number one reasons that a daycare is successful is because its clean. When you enter the daycare not only does it look clean and organized, but it also smells clean. I hate to say it, but your nose is your best weapon against defense. If you think it smells bad, then it will certainly leave a lasting impression on the parent who comes to visit your daycare center.

So Im here to give you some pointers on how you can keep your daycare clean and sweet smelling. It will cause you to do some elbow work but it will be well worth it in the long run. Increased enrollment, increased positive word of mouth equals money.

1.Clean and sanitize daily. Each day you should be making a solution of 1 tbsp. bleach per gallon of water; this will be used to wipe down all hard surfaces that contract germs. Examples would include: door handles, kitchen tables, toys shelves, kitchen counters, bathroom areas, bathroom toilet lids. All toys that are mouthed by children should be sanitized each day, and toys that are played with and have hard services should be wiped down once a week.

2.All carpets in your daycare should be steam cleaned every 3 months.

3.Use air fresheners when its too cold out side to open windows, but when its warm be sure to keep your windows open and circulate the fresh air.

4.Wash sleeping bags, sheets, pillows, once a week in a soap and bleach solution.

5.Sanitize your diaper pail each week, and make sure you get those nasty diapers out of your daycare A.S.A.P. in the outside trash. If might mean going out to the trash 2-3 times per day, but its worth it to get that stuff out of the house.

6.Make sure you clean up right after lunch. Children will often drop food on the floor and if you have a parent who visits you for an appointment you certainly would not want to leave the impression of food lying around.

The six steps above are a good place to start, there are of course many other items to clean and for too many of us cleaning seems to be endless but its necessary in everyday life and especially business.

Finding Healthy Eating Recipes Your Kids Will Like

Finding Healthy Eating Recipes Your Kids Will Like
By Trevor John

Your kids are probably the most important thing in your life. Thats the way it should be. One thing you want to do raising them is preparing them to be as healthy as they can be. Along the way you need to remain creative to keep them from getting bored with their food. Today there are more opportunities than ever to find qualified sources for good healthy eating recipes that may bring renewed enthusiasm to them when eating.

Looking for Healthy Eating Recipes Online

Today online there are many resources in the area of recipes. Among those you will find many sources such as recipe swapping online communities, many books for reasonable prices, government suggestions related to some study, and if you look hard enough you might even find a random recipe generating web page. This hasnt been proven, but likely exists somewhere.

Not all recipes are the same though. Some taste great but are packed with saturated fats that may linger in some ways when your children are old. Finding healthy eating recipes for the kids in your family might prove a little more challenging.

The Eating Pyramids May Help

There are a several food pyramids that suggest healthy eating balance among different food groups. The USDA offers MyPyramid.gov with resources that somewhat help plan what is needed for food intake based on your childrens age, gender, and activity levels.

The faculty at Harvards School of Public Health offers some guidelines to medical professionals that claim to be more in tune to health needs. They definitely distinguish between good and bad fats, as well as suggest more carbohydrates from whole grains. Reading more on this may help you better decide on healthy eating recipes that your children will like.

The Importance of Diet in Physical Fitness

Physical fitness comes from eating well, exercising well within it, and then resting as well. Without these three put together, there will be an imbalance. Too much food without burning it may leave healthy eating recipes useless. Finding the balance between diet and energy burning will indeed help you raise healthier kids as a result.

Kids Have Always Been Picky

In your search for new healthy eating recipes that your children will like, keep in mind that their tastes will change along the way. And taste is what its all about. Paying more attention to what they like and dont like over years will give you a second sense about what healthy eating they will eat. Often sweeter tastes in the early years go well.

Healthy eating recipes that will fill these years well may be better when the sweet taste comes from fruits. Over the years, use your sense when looking for innovative ways to keep your children eating healthy. It doesnt hurt to look for recipes that might bring new ideas into your own cooking.

10 Tips for Fixing Heart Healthy Recipes

10 Tips for Fixing Heart Healthy Recipes
By Harriet Hodgson

Do you remember Grandma's apple cobbler? Is spaghetti one of your favorite meals? You can still eat these things, but new versions of them, if you know how to swap ingredients. Here are 10 tips for fixing heart healthy recipes.

1. Replace eggs wih a cholesterol-free egg substitute. If you don't have a substitute on hand, you may use egg whites. According to the American Heart Association, two egg whites may be substituted for a whole egg in baking recipes.

2. Use fat free (skim) milk. This one change saves you calories and lowers your cholesterol level.

3. Choose non-fat cheese. For better melting Dr. Richard Collins, author of The Cooking Cardiologist, recommends soaking the cheese in milk for a few minutes before adding it to recipes.

4. Add fiber -- fresh fruit, dried fruit, vegetables, and grains -- whenever possible. Fiber is good for you and fills you up.

5. Cook with plant oils, such as olive, corn, and canola. If you're sauteing food, add a teaspoon of butter to the oil for flavor. Use as little oil as possible.

6. Swap unsweetened applesauce for shortening in baking recipes. But cooking is chemistry and, for best results, you may have to add a teaspoon of oil.

7. Hold the salt. Excess salt raises your blood pressure. Insstead of salt Mayo Clinic recommends citrus zest, fresh and dried herbs. To bring out the flavor of dried herbs rub them with your fingers before adding them to the recipe.

8. Cut back on sugar. Recipes made with half the sugar may taste just as sweet. Instead of sugar you may use Splenda, a no-calorie sweetener made from sugar, or half Splenda and half sugar.

9. Go lean on protein. Buy lean cuts of beef, skinless chicken, extra lean chops and fish. Some recipes, like spaghetti sauce with mushrooms, may not need protein at all.

10. Eat normal (not supersized) servings. According to the Univesity of Missouri Extension Service, large servings add up to 200-500 calories a day, which can add up to 20-50 extra pounds a year.

A few ingredient changes can have a huge impact on your heart health. Before you know it these swaps will be automatic. The heart is your body's main pump so take care of it.

How are you? Are you OK? Do you feel all right? These are the simple questions that could be asked in order to determine basic health condition of a person.

The lowest level of a good health could be maintained by prevention of simple chronic diseases (like ) and muscle-skeletal injuries. Basic advice is to stay away from sicknesses of any kind, especially the one that are the chronic one and could be prevented, plus it is nice if you dont break your bones and pull your muscles every other week. In order to step higher from basic level you need to consider your spiritual well-being.

Spiritual condition can be affected by many factors like problems at work/school, conflicts with family/peers, low self esteem, depression, dissatisfaction of surrounding conditions or simply dissatisfaction with your own body. All these factors can ruin your spiritual well-being and affect your health. So the question is How do you deal with all these problems and how do you improve your health and spirit? The answer is waiting for you just few lines down, so please pay attention.

To be healthy person you need to pay attention to the following factors:

  • Food you eat

  • Amount of food you eat

Mental Health Maintenance Is Made Simple

Mental Health Maintenance Is Made Simple
By Cliff Kuhn, M.D.

Your mental health is often drastically improved when you use the techniques Dr. Kuhn teaches in this article. When you are able to experience this improvement, your relationships blossom, career paths open, and people find you attractive and accessible. You deserve to have fun and joy in your life - and Cliff Kuhn, M.D. will help you do that.

In the classic Frank Capra film, It's a Wonderful Life, George Bailey's mental health is overwhelmed by the difficulties of his life and he wishes he'd never been born. George's guardian angel grants his wish and takes him to a grim reality as it would've been without him. George feels nothing when he reaches into his coat pocket to retrieve the flower his daughter, Zuzu, placed there - and that's when George knows that his wish has come true...he's never been born.

Wishing she had never been born, Roberta became my patient, seeking desperately to improve her mental health. Like the fictional George Bailey character, Roberta's depression and anxiety had grown so strong as to threaten her ability to lead any semblance of a normal life. Fortunately for Roberta, she soon discovered exactly why the natural medicine of humor is one of the most powerful adjunctive treatments for improving mental health, because humor literally pours water on the fire of depression and anxiety.

Roberta is not alone. As many as 35% of all Americans suffer from depression and anxiety, the twins that make mental health elusive for millions. Your depression and anxiety is exacerbated by your seriousness - taking yourself too seriously. As we move into adulthood, we unfortunately buy into the notion that responsible and productive people must be serious. As we make the biggest mistake of our lives and relegate our humor nature and fun to recreational activities (if we experience fun at all), we doom ourselves to all the symptoms of the corresponding seriousness that fills the void - declining health, rising stress, increased pain, lessened energy, impaired creativity, and more.

The good news for your mental health, however, is that we know how to shrink your deadly seriousness to practically nothing and reduce almost completely the sway it holds over your health, vitality, wellness, and zest. The natural medicine of humor is an incredibly powerful resource that you already possess; you've only forgotten how to use it to maximum effectiveness. You will soon discover that, while not a panacea, the natural medicine of humor is a tremendous tonic for depression or anxiety and will also supercharge other treatments because it is an amazing adjunctive medicine too!

I have distilled the natural medicine of humor, through my years of medical practice, into an amazing prescription I call The Fun Factor. Based on what I learned over twenty years ago from a terminally ill fifteen-year-old patient, I created a unique set of principles I call the Fun Commandments, then forged these Commandments into my Fun Factor prescription and have been prescribing The Fun Factor with great success for years. This report will show you how to use just three of my Fun Commandments to turn your mental health around, and gain new joy, pleasure, and appreciation from your life!

Improve Your Mental Health Using My Fun Factor Prescription

Step One: Always Go the Extra Smile

The first Fun Commandment I recommend for improved mental health is: Always Go the Extra Smile. This Commandment is doubly helpfully for depression and anxiety because not only does it provide measurable emotional and physical relief, but it also is completely under your control - regardless of your circumstances. Because smiling remains totally under your control, it can be your greatest resource for using humor's natural medicine to accelerate your mental health.

Smiling produces measurable physical benefits you can experience immediately: your stress decreases, your immunity improves, your pain and frustration tolerances increase, and your creativity soars. And guess what? You experience all these benefits even if your smile is fake. That's right...forcing a smile onto your face perks up your immune system and lightens your mood just as readily as a genuine smile. Fake a smile and you'll soon feel well enough to wear a real one!

This is great news for your proactive stance on sustainable mental health. You have an amazing amount of pre-emptive control over your mood - you can, literally, choose more energy and happiness. The key for your use of this Fun Commandment in enhancing your mental health is to start practicing right now, so that smiling becomes an entrenched, habitual method of accessing the natural medicine of humor. If you wait to smile until your mental health has taken a turn for the worse, and depression or anxiety has taken hold of you, it will not be as effective.

Step Two: Act and Interact

Smiling leads us right into the second Fun Commandment you'll find instrumental in maintaining your mental health: Act and Interact. Humor's natural medicine works best when we are sharing ourselves and this Commandment will teach you how to capitalize on the control you've taken over your physiology and mood by smiling. Acting and interacting is now easier for you to do because you're smiling more. Not only is your mood improved, but your smile is also a pleasant invitation to other people.

My suggestion is that you solidify the power of this Commandment by setting a reasonable goal regarding the number of people you will interact with each day. These social interactions are great for your mental health, forcing you to exchange information and ideas with another person. Combined with your commitment to smiling, your interactions should be pleasant, because your heightened energy, lessened pain, and lowered stress levels are very attractive to others.

Beyond keeping you out of isolation, there is another reason why acting and interacting with the people you encounter fosters improved mental health. It allows you to avoid spiritual flat tires. Spiritual flat tires occur when you sidestep, or avoid, an interaction that is about to happen naturally - you duck into an office to avoid encountering someone in a hallway or you don't answer the phone because you don't want to talk to the person calling. This type of avoidance drains and deletes your reservoir of powerful natural energy and siphons your mental health reserves.

Have you ever noticed that it usually takes you twice as much mental and physical energy to avoid doing a job than you would have expended just doing it? It also takes twice the energy to avoid acting and interacting with the people who cross your path because you are, in effect, saying, I'm going to correct the mistake that nature made by putting this person in my path and I'm going to correct it by being mentally and spiritually negligent. Mental and spiritual negligence have the same effect as physical negligence (isn't it strange how you get tired if you don't exercise?). If your mental health can afford to allow this much energy to be drained, then you have a much bigger reservoir than I!

But spiritual flat tires do more than drain our energy, they are detrimental in at least two additional ways:

We miss out on an interaction with a teacher. If nature didn't have a lesson for you, that person you just avoided would not have been placed in your path. You say that the person you just avoided was a negative influence or would've wasted your time? I know we have legitimate schedules to keep, but if I am avoiding people based on my prejudgment of them, I'm cutting myself off from my greatest teachers - those very same people. We all learn tolerance from the intolerant, patience from the impatient, temperance from the intemperate, gentleness from the ruffian, etc. I am supremely grateful for those teachers and the lessons they give me.

We create a small, nagging spiritual void of dishonesty, the kind of dishonesty that keeps us from laying our heads down with complete peace of mind each night. Our spiritual flat tire is caused by the pothole our avoidance created; it is a natural consequence, or symptom, of our spiritual dishonesty. These consequences clutter our lives with mental and emotional baggage that further drains us of our energy and vitality.

Step Three: Celebrate Everything

The third Fun Commandment which will help you use the natural medicine of humor to charge up your mental health is: Celebrate Everything. Celebrating everything may sound like a monumental task to someone who's mental health isn't up to par, but you will find this part of my doctor's orders much easier to fulfill once you start practicing my first two Commandments. In fact, celebrating everything is more than a maintenance step providing sustainable mental health. It will also become your lifestyle, the more you practice it, because you will enjoy the results so much.

How do you celebrate everything and how will this keep your mental health on the upswing? The epitome of this Commandment is found in the old joke about the boy who wanted a pony for his birthday. Instead, he found a room full of manure waiting for him. But he dove right into the dung, gleefully exclaiming, With all this manure, there's got to be a pony in here somewhere!

Laugh as we might, we're quick to remember that, as adults, we would never allow ourselves such aive enthusiasm. Why not? Do you realize what is behind such a grown up, mature decision? Your deadly seriousness (taking yourself too seriously) encourages the attitude that a mature adult should not let herself be so optimistic and thus mental health is jeopardized.

We could do more than chuckle at this birthday boy's unabashed optimism - we should emulate it! When was the last time you encountered an unexpected pile of manure in your life? You had absolutely no control over the mess, right? But you had absolute control over your reaction to it and this is the key to using celebration to keep your mental health improved!

When you celebrate everything, the natural medicine of humor creates spiritual, emotional, and mental health like nothing you've felt before. You will find that your fears become much less controlling when you are celebrating everything because it no longer matters so much how things turn out. In fact, you are literally ready for anything because you are prepared to find the blessing in whatever happens.

My daughter-in-law, for example, broke her back last year. My son, who is often my model for the embodiment of my Fun Commandments, can tick off a laundry list of blessings his family has received as a direct result of his wife's ragedy. Not that his mental health hasn't been challenged, but faced with the choice of depression and anxiety over an event he couldn't control versus finding the blessings waiting for him, he has chosen the latter.

The choice to celebrate everything is not a panacea; my son's choice did not change the reality of his wife's injury. What did change, however, was his ability to respond to the injury and, thus, keep his mental health on an even keel. Celebrating everything changes our lives because it allows us to positively control the only things we have control over - our actions, ideas, and attitudes.

There you have it. Start by going the extra smile, use your newfound smiling energy and vitality to act and interact with people, and celebrate everything to maintain your positive momentum. Aging in America: Part IIChanges to Health

Aging in America: Part II-Changes to Health
By L. John Mason

The Baby Boomers are beginning to turn 60 in the year 2006. There are many people confronting the physical issues of aging. A listing of the most common side-effects that can increase with aging is useful but a list of these issues and what you consider doing to minimize them is better.

After we pass from our youth, young adult phase, and into mid-life, say 35-45 years of age, we can begin to notice that our bodies are changing. We are no long as flexible and resilient as we were as young adults. Maybe our waist lines are growing as our digestion and metabolism begin to change. (Perhaps we can not handle the caloric intake that we prided our selves on as young adults.) Many of begin to have changes in vision that may require glasses or contact lenses or eye surgery. We need to learn to play sports differently because our muscles and joints do not heal from the abuse as easily as when we were younger. For many men, their foreheads start getting bigger. Our skin tone may change. Even our libidos can start to change, sometimes up and sometimes down It is not uncommon to find medical changes beginning such as: blood pressures get higher, blood cholesterol levels can raise, blood sugars may increase, increased insomnia, peripheral blood flow may be reduced, and even hormonal changes can begin to occur.

Medical intervention may be suggested for the chronic conditions that can lead to more severe health concerns. Treating blood pressure, higher cholesterol, and early stages of diabetes may be suggested because the long term effects may be life threatening. The secondary side-effects from these medications can also play a role in physical and mental health. We need to start living better and smarter. We need to exercise (3-5x per week for more than 30 minutes), eat better (less calories/junk food and more vegetables, fruits and whole grains), and we need to learn to control our habitual response to stress (which can start to catch up with us.)

Stress management and biofeedback can be helpful, non-medicinal, approaches to take control of certain symptoms. You can learn to reduce, perhaps control, your blood pressure, heart rate, and peripheral blood flow. These tools may even assist you with digestive challenges like: ulcers, or pre-ulcerous conditions, gastritis, colitis, constipation or diarrhea. Managing stress can also lessen chronic pain and improve sleeping. I have even heard of stress management and biofeedback techniques that can help reduce anxiety and the issues that add to substance abuse such as alcoholism, smoking control, drug and medication addiction, and even, over eating.

As we get older it is important that we take the extra time required for self-care. Consider the long term negative results that may have an impact on our quality of life and health. Please, also consider that spending this extra time and energy can also provide us with some surprising benefits. The time for self-care may actually be balanced by the fact that the practice of stress management can actually save you time in the long run. You will require less sleep and be better able to concentrate, perhaps even making fewer avoidable mistakes. You can also do better in testing situations and may find greater creativity. You will be better able to communicate more effectively, and this will save you time and possible frustrations. You will also provide a role model for the next generation of co-workers, family, friends, even your children, who will all need to learn more about self-care in an increasingly stress filled world.

Living longer can be a great joy or possibly a curse. Living longer with chronic health challenges is not an ideal way to live. Taking steps to reduce, or possibly eliminate, the impacts of aging will definitely enhance your quality of life and offer the sense of control that many people require for greater happiness.

Please take good care of yourself.

I am writing this series of articles to keep my work in the front of the trend of the baby boomers aging. I have been working in my field since 1978 and realize that an emphasis on the health, well-being, quality of life, and even the prosperity of this generation has both a professional and personal interest for me. My second book, Stress Passages: Surviving Lifes Transitions Gracefully, had major influence in serving the population of people struggling with the transition of aging. Well, now it is no longer ahead of its time. The time is now!

FTC Complains of Health Food Claims

FTC Complains of Health Food Claims
By Lance Winslow

The Federal Trade Commission complains that many groups make false claims or rather unsubstantiated claims about certain health foods, which may not do much of anything. Actually in looking at the total picture this is rather hilarious in that the Federal Trade Commission has never once been able to prove that it has actually reduced fraud.

In fact I have never seen one scientific research paper proving that the FTC actually helps consumers, not one, from any reputable University research department. I have never seen any empirical proof they crime, fraud or misrepresentation has been reduced by the FTC. This is not to say that their claims are not real when they state they are helping the consumer. It is to say they cannot prove it. And since they cannot prove it then by their own rules, they cannot say it right? Fair is fair, lets be honest?

Indeed I dare to ask the question is the United States Justice Departments Federal Trade Commissions Consumer Protection Division attacking and suing Health Food Companies because of the claims they make that they believe to be false or because they have been persuaded too by politicians who have been paid under the table by drug company lobbyists?

That is my final question; no other questions your honor. Think on this 2006.

Help Your Significant Other Get Into a Healthy Environment (Part 2)

Help Your Significant Other Get Into a Healthy Environment (Part 2)
By Justin Meyer

Next, look at their organizational skills. If things are getting put away as they should be, then you are okay. However, if they seem to have an organizational system that is abnormal, then try to understand it. Work within it to a point, but at the same time, guide them towards a more conventional system. This is important, as it will help reduce clutter in the home and in the mind.

It is important that you not arbitrarily change how they have their papers and life organized. Do not make the changes without explaining to your boyfriend or girlfriend what you are doing. Let them be involved in the decisions, as that allows them to take ownership of the new set-up. This will prevent the changes from coming as such a shock and will also encourage them to keep up with the modifications that you are making.

The important part here, however, is not to move too quickly. Start slowly, and move forward at a gradual pace. Start with one room, or one section of a room. Move forward from there, maintaining the same organizational pattern and explaining it each time. Eventually, this will sink in for your significant other as the way to do things. It may take time, so try not to lose your patience with them, because they need to see things for themselves. You are creating a new habit, and depending on how long the old system has been in existence, you may have to encourage this new one for some time before you get the result that you are looking for.

Statutory Warning: Smoking is Injurious to Sexual Health

Statutory Warning: Smoking is Injurious to Sexual Health
By Monalisa Hyden

Did you know that you are risking yourself to erectile dysfunction by smoking cigarette? Before you shrug off the statement, let me tell you that Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) and the British Medical Association (BMA) estimate that up to 120,000 UK men in their 30s and 40s are impotent as a direct consequence of smoking. Now, still I can see the signs of doubt on your face. You need concrete reasons to quit smoking, am I right? I understand that you are pretty addicted to the four-inch-fire-stick and need to breathe in till the end of it. But if you lose your sexual pleasure for good in lieu to the pleasure of smoking, will you not be a loser in this bargain?

Sexual functioning requires balanced coordination among hormones, nervous system to carry stimulation and healthy vascular system to pump blood to the penile tissues to cause a proper erection. Absence of any component among them will inevitably lead to erectile dysfunction. Now, what is the contribution of smoking in causing erectile dysfunction? Smoking affects the vascular system by narrowing down the blood vessels that contributes to the blockage of arteries; therefore the penis gets insufficient blood pumped into it, which results in a failed erection. Strokes and heart attacks are other life threatening diseases which can be caused by smoking. Now, let me tell you that smoking increases the risk of erectile dysfunction by 50% for men in their 30s and 40s. Let us see what nicotine actually does to the male private part to negate an erection.

Atherosclerosis, a fatty deposit in the arteries, built up by long term smoking, blocks the inflow route of blood into the penis.
Acute Vasospasm, a result of nicotine stimulation sent to the brain, causes rapid contraction in the penile tissues. This situation restricts blood flow into the penis.
The presence of nicotine in the blood stream damages the valve mechanism that traps blood in the penis. This problem is known as venous dilation.
Nicotine also reduces the volume of ejaculation.
It lowers sperm count and the sperm develops an abnormal shape.
The sperm motility is also impaired by nicotine.

Cigarette smoke contains about 4000 chemicals, most of which are supposed to damage the vascular system. The most dangerous chemicals are carbon monoxide, nicotine, and butadiene, causing thousands of deaths and millions of heart attacks, arthritis and impotence. A sheer fact can be deduced from the following findings; cigarette smoking results systemic arterial damage. We can infer another fact that impotence or erectile dysfunction is a signal to other life threatening diseases like heart attack, stroke and other heart and artery related problems.

The awareness related to the adversities of cigarette smoking is very low when it comes to erectile dysfunction. The smokers who are reading this article, I request them to analyze and weigh up their situation. If you have experienced the above mentioned symptoms related to your sexual life, you are in a deep soup. But at the same time, let me tell you, the situation is not irreversible. You can go back to your healthy sexual self just by quitting cigarette smoke. If the level of addiction is too high, there are therapies and medicinal help available for quitting cigarette, seek help from your doctor. Quit smoking right now so that you do not have to spend money on Viagra in future. Rather leave this smoking habit altogether, you will save your health, your sexuality and your money for a better life ahead.

How Correct Nutrition Can Improve the Health of Your Hair

How Correct Nutrition Can Improve the Health of Your Hair
By Joy Healey

It is normal to lose 50 to 100 hairs a day. Beyond this, hair loss can result from general nutrient deficiency. One of the problems with nutrition and hair however is that we can't programme nutrients to do what we want - and hair growth is not a priority so nutrients may be used up in other areas first.

B vitamins (especially B6, biotin and inositol) have all been found to be important in hair growth, so a heavy duty B complex is recommended. Avoid alcohol and caffeine as they destroy B1 and other B vitamins. Other important nutrients are manganese, magnesium, silica, kelp and vitamins C and E.

Stress worsens hair loss. It can reduce scalp blood flow, in addition to interfering with digestion and absorption. If stress is a consideration support the adrenals with vitamins B5 and C or glandulars.

Healthy hair needs good circulation and blood supply. Standing on your head - to raise body over head will boost circulation to your scalp, but ONLY attempt this if you are very healthy and fit! A more practical approach is an Indian head massage -- it increases blood flow and circulation in the scalp, helps transport minerals to the scalp and is wonderfully relaxing. Organic cider vinegar massaged into the scalp opens up the pores. If you are actually losing hair from the root (as opposed to brittle hair) then the cider vinegar can help unclog sebum glands that sometime block causing the follicle to die off as hair cannot get through.

Essential Fatty Acids promote healthy hair, and water obviously is vital to avoid dehydration. Filtered or bottled water is best - glass bottles preferable to plastic to avoid taking in plasticisers.

Thinning, dry hair can be a sign of protein deficiency. Increasing protein (possibly as protein shakes) can restore vitality and sometimes colour. But if protein intake is good, another possibility is low hydrochloric acid (HCl), which is needed to digest protein. If you're low in HCl, proteins are not digested properly, so the minerals they contain are not released. Mineral deficiencies could also be due to absorption problems in the gut. A 'leaky gut' can result from food intolerances, so if you suspect poor digestion, consider a food intolerance test when other symptoms suggest this.

Zinc has, in some cases of alopecia, been found to restore bodily hair growth as well as on the scalp.

Iron is often suggested after a study attributed hair loss in non-menopausal women to lack of iron.

Keratin - the hair protein - is predominately sulphur - which is probably why biotin is so useful as this is also predominately sulphur. MSM may be helpful for the same reason.

High copper has been associated with hair loss especially in women on HRT or who have taken the Pill. Good liver health will help keep copper down. Mercury, lead and cadmium toxicity have also been associated with hair loss.

Hair loss can also be due to hormonal imbalance especially post-menopausally, or with polycystic ovary syndrome. (PCOS can lead to elevated testosterone and hair loss). Herbal medicine can help here -- some PCOS clients have had good results from taking saw palmetto and agnus castus. Horsetail (a good source of silica) may also help, but a herbalist should be consulted if you wish to take herbs.

Hormone imbalances promote copper retention. A thyroid self-test may be useful as thyroid activity is reduced in the presence of high copper. Calcium and copper often rise together. The balance of copper and zinc together is a better guide to copper levels than copper alone. Smoking and high consumption of chocolate, white wine and coffee can tip it the wrong way. B3 and zinc are good antagonists to copper. Essential fatty acids also help hormonal balance.

The Health Benefits Of Grass Fed Beef

The Health Benefits Of Grass Fed Beef
By Dr. Linda Posh

Most of us have become complacent with regard to the food we consume. That complacency also includes the supermarket beef we are all so familiar with. As consumers, we are barraged on a continuum with advertising that embraces the virtues of grain fed meats. Labels in supermarkets and advertising at restaurants hope to court the customer by boasting loudly tender juicy grain fed meats.

While technology has experienced dramatic change in the last century, the human body has remained the same through the least 50,000 years or so. The bottom line is we have only been an agricultural species for 10,000 years. For some cultures this holds true for only 4,000 years. Modern science has paved the way for man to enjoy a plentiful food supply (grain farming). However, it is this very same food supply that plays a role in the dramatic levels of obesity and chronic disease we see in modern cultures. This is also the same food supply that makes grain fed meats a health hazard. The issues are the unnaturally high calorie contents and the disproportionate amount of bad fats contained in grain fed meats.

Before discussing the perils of the skewed fatty acid ratio found in grain fed meats, it may prove wise to examine a few issues regarding modern farming and feeding practices of our livestock. Until just a few years ago, it was common practice to feed cows ground up pieces and parts of other dead cows. Not to mention, ground up dead cats and dogs. This, in an effort to provide a cheap form of protein and feed for livestock. Sadly, this practice has led to the propagation of mad cow disease. Keep in mind, we still feed chicken manure, waste products from processed food factories, and GRAIN based feed. Not what a cow, a ruminant animal was designed to live on. The FACT remains, no species has evolved or developed over millions of years consuming any type of whole grain whatsoever.

Grain fed meats carry a disproportionate ratio of the fats labeled Omega 6 and Omega 3. Keep in mind that fats (the right fats in the right proportions are ESSENTIAL to human life). The brain is made of approximately 60% FAT. We need fats ( the right fats in the right ratios) to absorb certain nutrients, build cell membranes and help clot blood, just to name a few of the roles that the correct fats play in human health and wellness. Omega 3 fats are absolutely required for optimal brain and nervous system function. The ideal ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 fats is 1:1. Sadly, due to the fact that Omega 3 fats are hardly found in the American diet, the ratio is skewed by a landslide with ratios of 15:1 on upwards to 50:1. It is not that Omega 6 fatty acids are bad guys; it is the skewed ratio as a result of our processed food environment that is undesirable. When one sports an appropriate ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 fatty acids, you can also enjoy the accompanying benefits such as reduced risk of dementia, reduced risk of heart disease, cancers and strokes. ALL which have been proven beyond a reasonable doubt by current nutritional science.
