Finding Healthy Eating Recipes Your Kids Will Like

Finding Healthy Eating Recipes Your Kids Will Like
By Trevor John

Your kids are probably the most important thing in your life. Thats the way it should be. One thing you want to do raising them is preparing them to be as healthy as they can be. Along the way you need to remain creative to keep them from getting bored with their food. Today there are more opportunities than ever to find qualified sources for good healthy eating recipes that may bring renewed enthusiasm to them when eating.

Looking for Healthy Eating Recipes Online

Today online there are many resources in the area of recipes. Among those you will find many sources such as recipe swapping online communities, many books for reasonable prices, government suggestions related to some study, and if you look hard enough you might even find a random recipe generating web page. This hasnt been proven, but likely exists somewhere.

Not all recipes are the same though. Some taste great but are packed with saturated fats that may linger in some ways when your children are old. Finding healthy eating recipes for the kids in your family might prove a little more challenging.

The Eating Pyramids May Help

There are a several food pyramids that suggest healthy eating balance among different food groups. The USDA offers MyPyramid.gov with resources that somewhat help plan what is needed for food intake based on your childrens age, gender, and activity levels.

The faculty at Harvards School of Public Health offers some guidelines to medical professionals that claim to be more in tune to health needs. They definitely distinguish between good and bad fats, as well as suggest more carbohydrates from whole grains. Reading more on this may help you better decide on healthy eating recipes that your children will like.

The Importance of Diet in Physical Fitness

Physical fitness comes from eating well, exercising well within it, and then resting as well. Without these three put together, there will be an imbalance. Too much food without burning it may leave healthy eating recipes useless. Finding the balance between diet and energy burning will indeed help you raise healthier kids as a result.

Kids Have Always Been Picky

In your search for new healthy eating recipes that your children will like, keep in mind that their tastes will change along the way. And taste is what its all about. Paying more attention to what they like and dont like over years will give you a second sense about what healthy eating they will eat. Often sweeter tastes in the early years go well.

Healthy eating recipes that will fill these years well may be better when the sweet taste comes from fruits. Over the years, use your sense when looking for innovative ways to keep your children eating healthy. It doesnt hurt to look for recipes that might bring new ideas into your own cooking.

One place to look towards healthy eating recipes your children may enjoy is where you are now reading. You should also find more tips on what makes things healthier, and years down the road you can sit back and appreciate the outcomes in your children.

10 Tips for Fixing Heart Healthy Recipes

10 Tips for Fixing Heart Healthy Recipes
By Harriet Hodgson

Do you remember Grandma's apple cobbler? Is spaghetti one of your favorite meals? You can still eat these things, but new versions of them, if you know how to swap ingredients. Here are 10 tips for fixing heart healthy recipes.

1. Replace eggs wih a cholesterol-free egg substitute. If you don't have a substitute on hand, you may use egg whites. According to the American Heart Association, two egg whites may be substituted for a whole egg in baking recipes.

2. Use fat free (skim) milk. This one change saves you calories and lowers your cholesterol level.

3. Choose non-fat cheese. For better melting Dr. Richard Collins, author of The Cooking Cardiologist, recommends soaking the cheese in milk for a few minutes before adding it to recipes.

4. Add fiber -- fresh fruit, dried fruit, vegetables, and grains -- whenever possible. Fiber is good for you and fills you up.

5. Cook with plant oils, such as olive, corn, and canola. If you're sauteing food, add a teaspoon of butter to the oil for flavor. Use as little oil as possible.

6. Swap unsweetened applesauce for shortening in baking recipes. But cooking is chemistry and, for best results, you may have to add a teaspoon of oil.

7. Hold the salt. Excess salt raises your blood pressure. Insstead of salt Mayo Clinic recommends citrus zest, fresh and dried herbs. To bring out the flavor of dried herbs rub them with your fingers before adding them to the recipe.

8. Cut back on sugar. Recipes made with half the sugar may taste just as sweet. Instead of sugar you may use Splenda, a no-calorie sweetener made from sugar, or half Splenda and half sugar.

9. Go lean on protein. Buy lean cuts of beef, skinless chicken, extra lean chops and fish. Some recipes, like spaghetti sauce with mushrooms, may not need protein at all.

10. Eat normal (not supersized) servings. According to the Univesity of Missouri Extension Service, large servings add up to 200-500 calories a day, which can add up to 20-50 extra pounds a year.

A few ingredient changes can have a huge impact on your heart health. Before you know it these swaps will be automatic. The heart is your body's main pump so take care of it.

Your Health

Your Health
By Sergios Charntikov

How are you? Are you OK? Do you feel all right? These are the simple questions that could be asked in order to determine basic health condition of a person.

The lowest level of a good health could be maintained by prevention of simple chronic diseases (like ) and muscle-skeletal injuries. Basic advice is to stay away from sicknesses of any kind, especially the one that are the chronic one and could be prevented, plus it is nice if you dont break your bones and pull your muscles every other week. In order to step higher from basic level you need to consider your spiritual well-being.

Spiritual condition can be affected by many factors like problems at work/school, conflicts with family/peers, low self esteem, depression, dissatisfaction of surrounding conditions or simply dissatisfaction with your own body. All these factors can ruin your spiritual well-being and affect your health. So the question is How do you deal with all these problems and how do you improve your health and spirit? The answer is waiting for you just few lines down, so please pay attention.

To be healthy person you need to pay attention to the following factors:

  • Food you eat

  • Amount of food you eat

  • supplements you take

  • Drugs you take

  • Air you breathe

  • How active you are

Forget about that burger! Forget about cookies, cake, condensed soup, packaged meals, iceberg lettuce, ice cream, whole milk, bacon, sausages, chips, and all the other junk. Just think about it our body was designed long, really long time ago before people started experiment with all sorts of preservatives and artificial components, which means that it specifically designed for processing and drawing maximum benefits from whole foods that grow on the planet.

Think, and act appropriately Youve got life x 1.

Mental Health Maintenance Is Made Simple

Mental Health Maintenance Is Made Simple
By Cliff Kuhn, M.D.

Your mental health is often drastically improved when you use the techniques Dr. Kuhn teaches in this article. When you are able to experience this improvement, your relationships blossom, career paths open, and people find you attractive and accessible. You deserve to have fun and joy in your life - and Cliff Kuhn, M.D. will help you do that.

In the classic Frank Capra film, It's a Wonderful Life, George Bailey's mental health is overwhelmed by the difficulties of his life and he wishes he'd never been born. George's guardian angel grants his wish and takes him to a grim reality as it would've been without him. George feels nothing when he reaches into his coat pocket to retrieve the flower his daughter, Zuzu, placed there - and that's when George knows that his wish has come true...he's never been born.

Wishing she had never been born, Roberta became my patient, seeking desperately to improve her mental health. Like the fictional George Bailey character, Roberta's depression and anxiety had grown so strong as to threaten her ability to lead any semblance of a normal life. Fortunately for Roberta, she soon discovered exactly why the natural medicine of humor is one of the most powerful adjunctive treatments for improving mental health, because humor literally pours water on the fire of depression and anxiety.

Roberta is not alone. As many as 35% of all Americans suffer from depression and anxiety, the twins that make mental health elusive for millions. Your depression and anxiety is exacerbated by your seriousness - taking yourself too seriously. As we move into adulthood, we unfortunately buy into the notion that responsible and productive people must be serious. As we make the biggest mistake of our lives and relegate our humor nature and fun to recreational activities (if we experience fun at all), we doom ourselves to all the symptoms of the corresponding seriousness that fills the void - declining health, rising stress, increased pain, lessened energy, impaired creativity, and more.

The good news for your mental health, however, is that we know how to shrink your deadly seriousness to practically nothing and reduce almost completely the sway it holds over your health, vitality, wellness, and zest. The natural medicine of humor is an incredibly powerful resource that you already possess; you've only forgotten how to use it to maximum effectiveness. You will soon discover that, while not a panacea, the natural medicine of humor is a tremendous tonic for depression or anxiety and will also supercharge other treatments because it is an amazing adjunctive medicine too!

I have distilled the natural medicine of humor, through my years of medical practice, into an amazing prescription I call The Fun Factor. Based on what I learned over twenty years ago from a terminally ill fifteen-year-old patient, I created a unique set of principles I call the Fun Commandments, then forged these Commandments into my Fun Factor prescription and have been prescribing The Fun Factor with great success for years. This report will show you how to use just three of my Fun Commandments to turn your mental health around, and gain new joy, pleasure, and appreciation from your life!

Improve Your Mental Health Using My Fun Factor Prescription

Step One: Always Go the Extra Smile

The first Fun Commandment I recommend for improved mental health is: Always Go the Extra Smile. This Commandment is doubly helpfully for depression and anxiety because not only does it provide measurable emotional and physical relief, but it also is completely under your control - regardless of your circumstances. Because smiling remains totally under your control, it can be your greatest resource for using humor's natural medicine to accelerate your mental health.

Smiling produces measurable physical benefits you can experience immediately: your stress decreases, your immunity improves, your pain and frustration tolerances increase, and your creativity soars. And guess what? You experience all these benefits even if your smile is fake. That's right...forcing a smile onto your face perks up your immune system and lightens your mood just as readily as a genuine smile. Fake a smile and you'll soon feel well enough to wear a real one!

This is great news for your proactive stance on sustainable mental health. You have an amazing amount of pre-emptive control over your mood - you can, literally, choose more energy and happiness. The key for your use of this Fun Commandment in enhancing your mental health is to start practicing right now, so that smiling becomes an entrenched, habitual method of accessing the natural medicine of humor. If you wait to smile until your mental health has taken a turn for the worse, and depression or anxiety has taken hold of you, it will not be as effective.

Step Two: Act and Interact

Smiling leads us right into the second Fun Commandment you'll find instrumental in maintaining your mental health: Act and Interact. Humor's natural medicine works best when we are sharing ourselves and this Commandment will teach you how to capitalize on the control you've taken over your physiology and mood by smiling. Acting and interacting is now easier for you to do because you're smiling more. Not only is your mood improved, but your smile is also a pleasant invitation to other people.

My suggestion is that you solidify the power of this Commandment by setting a reasonable goal regarding the number of people you will interact with each day. These social interactions are great for your mental health, forcing you to exchange information and ideas with another person. Combined with your commitment to smiling, your interactions should be pleasant, because your heightened energy, lessened pain, and lowered stress levels are very attractive to others.

Beyond keeping you out of isolation, there is another reason why acting and interacting with the people you encounter fosters improved mental health. It allows you to avoid spiritual flat tires. Spiritual flat tires occur when you sidestep, or avoid, an interaction that is about to happen naturally - you duck into an office to avoid encountering someone in a hallway or you don't answer the phone because you don't want to talk to the person calling. This type of avoidance drains and deletes your reservoir of powerful natural energy and siphons your mental health reserves.

Have you ever noticed that it usually takes you twice as much mental and physical energy to avoid doing a job than you would have expended just doing it? It also takes twice the energy to avoid acting and interacting with the people who cross your path because you are, in effect, saying, I'm going to correct the mistake that nature made by putting this person in my path and I'm going to correct it by being mentally and spiritually negligent. Mental and spiritual negligence have the same effect as physical negligence (isn't it strange how you get tired if you don't exercise?). If your mental health can afford to allow this much energy to be drained, then you have a much bigger reservoir than I!

But spiritual flat tires do more than drain our energy, they are detrimental in at least two additional ways:

We miss out on an interaction with a teacher. If nature didn't have a lesson for you, that person you just avoided would not have been placed in your path. You say that the person you just avoided was a negative influence or would've wasted your time? I know we have legitimate schedules to keep, but if I am avoiding people based on my prejudgment of them, I'm cutting myself off from my greatest teachers - those very same people. We all learn tolerance from the intolerant, patience from the impatient, temperance from the intemperate, gentleness from the ruffian, etc. I am supremely grateful for those teachers and the lessons they give me.

We create a small, nagging spiritual void of dishonesty, the kind of dishonesty that keeps us from laying our heads down with complete peace of mind each night. Our spiritual flat tire is caused by the pothole our avoidance created; it is a natural consequence, or symptom, of our spiritual dishonesty. These consequences clutter our lives with mental and emotional baggage that further drains us of our energy and vitality.

Step Three: Celebrate Everything

The third Fun Commandment which will help you use the natural medicine of humor to charge up your mental health is: Celebrate Everything. Celebrating everything may sound like a monumental task to someone who's mental health isn't up to par, but you will find this part of my doctor's orders much easier to fulfill once you start practicing my first two Commandments. In fact, celebrating everything is more than a maintenance step providing sustainable mental health. It will also become your lifestyle, the more you practice it, because you will enjoy the results so much.

How do you celebrate everything and how will this keep your mental health on the upswing? The epitome of this Commandment is found in the old joke about the boy who wanted a pony for his birthday. Instead, he found a room full of manure waiting for him. But he dove right into the dung, gleefully exclaiming, With all this manure, there's got to be a pony in here somewhere!

Laugh as we might, we're quick to remember that, as adults, we would never allow ourselves such aive enthusiasm. Why not? Do you realize what is behind such a grown up, mature decision? Your deadly seriousness (taking yourself too seriously) encourages the attitude that a mature adult should not let herself be so optimistic and thus mental health is jeopardized.

We could do more than chuckle at this birthday boy's unabashed optimism - we should emulate it! When was the last time you encountered an unexpected pile of manure in your life? You had absolutely no control over the mess, right? But you had absolute control over your reaction to it and this is the key to using celebration to keep your mental health improved!

When you celebrate everything, the natural medicine of humor creates spiritual, emotional, and mental health like nothing you've felt before. You will find that your fears become much less controlling when you are celebrating everything because it no longer matters so much how things turn out. In fact, you are literally ready for anything because you are prepared to find the blessing in whatever happens.

My daughter-in-law, for example, broke her back last year. My son, who is often my model for the embodiment of my Fun Commandments, can tick off a laundry list of blessings his family has received as a direct result of his wife's ragedy. Not that his mental health hasn't been challenged, but faced with the choice of depression and anxiety over an event he couldn't control versus finding the blessings waiting for him, he has chosen the latter.

The choice to celebrate everything is not a panacea; my son's choice did not change the reality of his wife's injury. What did change, however, was his ability to respond to the injury and, thus, keep his mental health on an even keel. Celebrating everything changes our lives because it allows us to positively control the only things we have control over - our actions, ideas, and attitudes.

There you have it. Start by going the extra smile, use your newfound smiling energy and vitality to act and interact with people, and celebrate everything to maintain your positive momentum. Aging in America: Part IIChanges to Health

Aging in America: Part II-Changes to Health
By L. John Mason

The Baby Boomers are beginning to turn 60 in the year 2006. There are many people confronting the physical issues of aging. A listing of the most common side-effects that can increase with aging is useful but a list of these issues and what you consider doing to minimize them is better.

After we pass from our youth, young adult phase, and into mid-life, say 35-45 years of age, we can begin to notice that our bodies are changing. We are no long as flexible and resilient as we were as young adults. Maybe our waist lines are growing as our digestion and metabolism begin to change. (Perhaps we can not handle the caloric intake that we prided our selves on as young adults.) Many of begin to have changes in vision that may require glasses or contact lenses or eye surgery. We need to learn to play sports differently because our muscles and joints do not heal from the abuse as easily as when we were younger. For many men, their foreheads start getting bigger. Our skin tone may change. Even our libidos can start to change, sometimes up and sometimes down It is not uncommon to find medical changes beginning such as: blood pressures get higher, blood cholesterol levels can raise, blood sugars may increase, increased insomnia, peripheral blood flow may be reduced, and even hormonal changes can begin to occur.

Medical intervention may be suggested for the chronic conditions that can lead to more severe health concerns. Treating blood pressure, higher cholesterol, and early stages of diabetes may be suggested because the long term effects may be life threatening. The secondary side-effects from these medications can also play a role in physical and mental health. We need to start living better and smarter. We need to exercise (3-5x per week for more than 30 minutes), eat better (less calories/junk food and more vegetables, fruits and whole grains), and we need to learn to control our habitual response to stress (which can start to catch up with us.)

Stress management and biofeedback can be helpful, non-medicinal, approaches to take control of certain symptoms. You can learn to reduce, perhaps control, your blood pressure, heart rate, and peripheral blood flow. These tools may even assist you with digestive challenges like: ulcers, or pre-ulcerous conditions, gastritis, colitis, constipation or diarrhea. Managing stress can also lessen chronic pain and improve sleeping. I have even heard of stress management and biofeedback techniques that can help reduce anxiety and the issues that add to substance abuse such as alcoholism, smoking control, drug and medication addiction, and even, over eating.

As we get older it is important that we take the extra time required for self-care. Consider the long term negative results that may have an impact on our quality of life and health. Please, also consider that spending this extra time and energy can also provide us with some surprising benefits. The time for self-care may actually be balanced by the fact that the practice of stress management can actually save you time in the long run. You will require less sleep and be better able to concentrate, perhaps even making fewer avoidable mistakes. You can also do better in testing situations and may find greater creativity. You will be better able to communicate more effectively, and this will save you time and possible frustrations. You will also provide a role model for the next generation of co-workers, family, friends, even your children, who will all need to learn more about self-care in an increasingly stress filled world.

Living longer can be a great joy or possibly a curse. Living longer with chronic health challenges is not an ideal way to live. Taking steps to reduce, or possibly eliminate, the impacts of aging will definitely enhance your quality of life and offer the sense of control that many people require for greater happiness.

Please take good care of yourself.

I am writing this series of articles to keep my work in the front of the trend of the baby boomers aging. I have been working in my field since 1978 and realize that an emphasis on the health, well-being, quality of life, and even the prosperity of this generation has both a professional and personal interest for me. My second book, Stress Passages: Surviving Lifes Transitions Gracefully, had major influence in serving the population of people struggling with the transition of aging. Well, now it is no longer ahead of its time. The time is now!

FTC Complains of Health Food Claims

FTC Complains of Health Food Claims
By Lance Winslow

The Federal Trade Commission complains that many groups make false claims or rather unsubstantiated claims about certain health foods, which may not do much of anything. Actually in looking at the total picture this is rather hilarious in that the Federal Trade Commission has never once been able to prove that it has actually reduced fraud.

In fact I have never seen one scientific research paper proving that the FTC actually helps consumers, not one, from any reputable University research department. I have never seen any empirical proof they crime, fraud or misrepresentation has been reduced by the FTC. This is not to say that their claims are not real when they state they are helping the consumer. It is to say they cannot prove it. And since they cannot prove it then by their own rules, they cannot say it right? Fair is fair, lets be honest?

Indeed I dare to ask the question is the United States Justice Departments Federal Trade Commissions Consumer Protection Division attacking and suing Health Food Companies because of the claims they make that they believe to be false or because they have been persuaded too by politicians who have been paid under the table by drug company lobbyists?

That is my final question; no other questions your honor. Think on this 2006.

Help Your Significant Other Get Into a Healthy Environment (Part 2)

Help Your Significant Other Get Into a Healthy Environment (Part 2)
By Justin Meyer

Next, look at their organizational skills. If things are getting put away as they should be, then you are okay. However, if they seem to have an organizational system that is abnormal, then try to understand it. Work within it to a point, but at the same time, guide them towards a more conventional system. This is important, as it will help reduce clutter in the home and in the mind.

It is important that you not arbitrarily change how they have their papers and life organized. Do not make the changes without explaining to your boyfriend or girlfriend what you are doing. Let them be involved in the decisions, as that allows them to take ownership of the new set-up. This will prevent the changes from coming as such a shock and will also encourage them to keep up with the modifications that you are making.

The important part here, however, is not to move too quickly. Start slowly, and move forward at a gradual pace. Start with one room, or one section of a room. Move forward from there, maintaining the same organizational pattern and explaining it each time. Eventually, this will sink in for your significant other as the way to do things. It may take time, so try not to lose your patience with them, because they need to see things for themselves. You are creating a new habit, and depending on how long the old system has been in existence, you may have to encourage this new one for some time before you get the result that you are looking for.

Statutory Warning: Smoking is Injurious to Sexual Health

Statutory Warning: Smoking is Injurious to Sexual Health
By Monalisa Hyden

Did you know that you are risking yourself to erectile dysfunction by smoking cigarette? Before you shrug off the statement, let me tell you that Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) and the British Medical Association (BMA) estimate that up to 120,000 UK men in their 30s and 40s are impotent as a direct consequence of smoking. Now, still I can see the signs of doubt on your face. You need concrete reasons to quit smoking, am I right? I understand that you are pretty addicted to the four-inch-fire-stick and need to breathe in till the end of it. But if you lose your sexual pleasure for good in lieu to the pleasure of smoking, will you not be a loser in this bargain?

Sexual functioning requires balanced coordination among hormones, nervous system to carry stimulation and healthy vascular system to pump blood to the penile tissues to cause a proper erection. Absence of any component among them will inevitably lead to erectile dysfunction. Now, what is the contribution of smoking in causing erectile dysfunction? Smoking affects the vascular system by narrowing down the blood vessels that contributes to the blockage of arteries; therefore the penis gets insufficient blood pumped into it, which results in a failed erection. Strokes and heart attacks are other life threatening diseases which can be caused by smoking. Now, let me tell you that smoking increases the risk of erectile dysfunction by 50% for men in their 30s and 40s. Let us see what nicotine actually does to the male private part to negate an erection.

Atherosclerosis, a fatty deposit in the arteries, built up by long term smoking, blocks the inflow route of blood into the penis.
Acute Vasospasm, a result of nicotine stimulation sent to the brain, causes rapid contraction in the penile tissues. This situation restricts blood flow into the penis.
The presence of nicotine in the blood stream damages the valve mechanism that traps blood in the penis. This problem is known as venous dilation.
Nicotine also reduces the volume of ejaculation.
It lowers sperm count and the sperm develops an abnormal shape.
The sperm motility is also impaired by nicotine.

Cigarette smoke contains about 4000 chemicals, most of which are supposed to damage the vascular system. The most dangerous chemicals are carbon monoxide, nicotine, and butadiene, causing thousands of deaths and millions of heart attacks, arthritis and impotence. A sheer fact can be deduced from the following findings; cigarette smoking results systemic arterial damage. We can infer another fact that impotence or erectile dysfunction is a signal to other life threatening diseases like heart attack, stroke and other heart and artery related problems.

The awareness related to the adversities of cigarette smoking is very low when it comes to erectile dysfunction. The smokers who are reading this article, I request them to analyze and weigh up their situation. If you have experienced the above mentioned symptoms related to your sexual life, you are in a deep soup. But at the same time, let me tell you, the situation is not irreversible. You can go back to your healthy sexual self just by quitting cigarette smoke. If the level of addiction is too high, there are therapies and medicinal help available for quitting cigarette, seek help from your doctor. Quit smoking right now so that you do not have to spend money on Viagra in future. Rather leave this smoking habit altogether, you will save your health, your sexuality and your money for a better life ahead.

How Correct Nutrition Can Improve the Health of Your Hair

How Correct Nutrition Can Improve the Health of Your Hair
By Joy Healey

It is normal to lose 50 to 100 hairs a day. Beyond this, hair loss can result from general nutrient deficiency. One of the problems with nutrition and hair however is that we can't programme nutrients to do what we want - and hair growth is not a priority so nutrients may be used up in other areas first.

B vitamins (especially B6, biotin and inositol) have all been found to be important in hair growth, so a heavy duty B complex is recommended. Avoid alcohol and caffeine as they destroy B1 and other B vitamins. Other important nutrients are manganese, magnesium, silica, kelp and vitamins C and E.

Stress worsens hair loss. It can reduce scalp blood flow, in addition to interfering with digestion and absorption. If stress is a consideration support the adrenals with vitamins B5 and C or glandulars.

Healthy hair needs good circulation and blood supply. Standing on your head - to raise body over head will boost circulation to your scalp, but ONLY attempt this if you are very healthy and fit! A more practical approach is an Indian head massage -- it increases blood flow and circulation in the scalp, helps transport minerals to the scalp and is wonderfully relaxing. Organic cider vinegar massaged into the scalp opens up the pores. If you are actually losing hair from the root (as opposed to brittle hair) then the cider vinegar can help unclog sebum glands that sometime block causing the follicle to die off as hair cannot get through.

Essential Fatty Acids promote healthy hair, and water obviously is vital to avoid dehydration. Filtered or bottled water is best - glass bottles preferable to plastic to avoid taking in plasticisers.

Thinning, dry hair can be a sign of protein deficiency. Increasing protein (possibly as protein shakes) can restore vitality and sometimes colour. But if protein intake is good, another possibility is low hydrochloric acid (HCl), which is needed to digest protein. If you're low in HCl, proteins are not digested properly, so the minerals they contain are not released. Mineral deficiencies could also be due to absorption problems in the gut. A 'leaky gut' can result from food intolerances, so if you suspect poor digestion, consider a food intolerance test when other symptoms suggest this.

Zinc has, in some cases of alopecia, been found to restore bodily hair growth as well as on the scalp.

Iron is often suggested after a study attributed hair loss in non-menopausal women to lack of iron.

Keratin - the hair protein - is predominately sulphur - which is probably why biotin is so useful as this is also predominately sulphur. MSM may be helpful for the same reason.

High copper has been associated with hair loss especially in women on HRT or who have taken the Pill. Good liver health will help keep copper down. Mercury, lead and cadmium toxicity have also been associated with hair loss.

Hair loss can also be due to hormonal imbalance especially post-menopausally, or with polycystic ovary syndrome. (PCOS can lead to elevated testosterone and hair loss). Herbal medicine can help here -- some PCOS clients have had good results from taking saw palmetto and agnus castus. Horsetail (a good source of silica) may also help, but a herbalist should be consulted if you wish to take herbs.

Hormone imbalances promote copper retention. A thyroid self-test may be useful as thyroid activity is reduced in the presence of high copper. Calcium and copper often rise together. The balance of copper and zinc together is a better guide to copper levels than copper alone. Smoking and high consumption of chocolate, white wine and coffee can tip it the wrong way. B3 and zinc are good antagonists to copper. Essential fatty acids also help hormonal balance.

The Health Benefits Of Grass Fed Beef

The Health Benefits Of Grass Fed Beef
By Dr. Linda Posh

Most of us have become complacent with regard to the food we consume. That complacency also includes the supermarket beef we are all so familiar with. As consumers, we are barraged on a continuum with advertising that embraces the virtues of grain fed meats. Labels in supermarkets and advertising at restaurants hope to court the customer by boasting loudly tender juicy grain fed meats.

While technology has experienced dramatic change in the last century, the human body has remained the same through the least 50,000 years or so. The bottom line is we have only been an agricultural species for 10,000 years. For some cultures this holds true for only 4,000 years. Modern science has paved the way for man to enjoy a plentiful food supply (grain farming). However, it is this very same food supply that plays a role in the dramatic levels of obesity and chronic disease we see in modern cultures. This is also the same food supply that makes grain fed meats a health hazard. The issues are the unnaturally high calorie contents and the disproportionate amount of bad fats contained in grain fed meats.

Before discussing the perils of the skewed fatty acid ratio found in grain fed meats, it may prove wise to examine a few issues regarding modern farming and feeding practices of our livestock. Until just a few years ago, it was common practice to feed cows ground up pieces and parts of other dead cows. Not to mention, ground up dead cats and dogs. This, in an effort to provide a cheap form of protein and feed for livestock. Sadly, this practice has led to the propagation of mad cow disease. Keep in mind, we still feed chicken manure, waste products from processed food factories, and GRAIN based feed. Not what a cow, a ruminant animal was designed to live on. The FACT remains, no species has evolved or developed over millions of years consuming any type of whole grain whatsoever.

Grain fed meats carry a disproportionate ratio of the fats labeled Omega 6 and Omega 3. Keep in mind that fats (the right fats in the right proportions are ESSENTIAL to human life). The brain is made of approximately 60% FAT. We need fats ( the right fats in the right ratios) to absorb certain nutrients, build cell membranes and help clot blood, just to name a few of the roles that the correct fats play in human health and wellness. Omega 3 fats are absolutely required for optimal brain and nervous system function. The ideal ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 fats is 1:1. Sadly, due to the fact that Omega 3 fats are hardly found in the American diet, the ratio is skewed by a landslide with ratios of 15:1 on upwards to 50:1. It is not that Omega 6 fatty acids are bad guys; it is the skewed ratio as a result of our processed food environment that is undesirable. When one sports an appropriate ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 fatty acids, you can also enjoy the accompanying benefits such as reduced risk of dementia, reduced risk of heart disease, cancers and strokes. ALL which have been proven beyond a reasonable doubt by current nutritional science.

10 Tips for a Longer Life and Great Health Back to the Basics

10 Tips for a Longer Life and Great Health - Back to the Basics
By Gary Dunaway

In today's fast paced lifestyle, many of the basic foundations of good health have gone by the wayside. Take the time to remember the tried and true steps to great health and you'll live a longer, happier life.

1. Prevention is a lot better than a cure. Living a healthy lifestyle is a lot easier than trying to get over any kind of disease.

2. Balanced living is important. Not all work, not all play. Not too much stress. Some meaningful relationships, but also meaningful time alone with God. Some service to doing good and helping others, but not so much as to consume all your quality time with God, your family and your friends.

3. Eating habits. Lots of fruits & veggies. Fiber and bowel cleansing are extremely important. Eat raw foods everyday. Raw foods are important as they add enzymes that assist in digestion. Several helpings of fruits and veggies daily will help your health.

4. Good bowel movement daily. Consume plenty of fiber and drink lots of water.

5. Watch your weight ! Raw fruits and vegetables are low in calories and aid digestion. Do not eat a lot of refined carbohydrates, such as sugar, white bread, white spaghetti, instant rice, crackers, etc. Obesity in this country is rampant, leading to an epidemic in Diabetes.

6. Get adequate exercise. Simply taking a daily walk burns calories and aids in digestion and elimination.

7. Refresh your body with sleep. 8 hours for most people. Sleep without distractions and have complete darkness if possible.

8. REMOVE THOSE TOXINS !. We are exposed to many toxins throughout our lives. Exhaust fumes, cleaning supplies, mercury, lead, aluminum, parasites, etc. Fortunately, our bodies do get rid of most toxins. However, we dont throw off all toxins, and over the years, toxins will build up. It is important to eliminate toxins since a build-up of them can contribute to a host of diseases.

9. Take good quality vitamin and mineral supplements. Generally, we dont get everything we need from foods. High quality supplements can help in preventing illness and disease.

10. Have a benefits plan in times of need. Todays Health Care in America is in total chaos. Corporations and employers are claiming extreme Medical, Dental, Prescription, and Vision costs are driving them toward bankruptcy. Healthcare is changing toward consumer driven benefits plans. There are plans available to keep you from personally ending up in financial straits.

Gary Dunaway authors informative Health related articles, in relation to todays lifestyle. In addition, he offers affordable discount Health Benefit packages to those in need. He will send you a free DVD describing these benefits by going to his site : http://garysdental.net - or contact him at - garysdental@fuse.net

Family Health: The Dangers Of Household Garbage & How To Avoid Them

Family Health: The Dangers Of Household Garbage & How To Avoid Them
By I-key Benney

The dangers of household garbage are real.

The more you put your household garbage out, the more it piles up.

In a family of a few children it can become a nuisance.

And when garbage is not removed as often as it should, it can become dangerous to the health of the family.

Here are some family health insights on how to avoid the dangers of garbage in the home.

Millions of households are producing billions of pounds of solid waste.

The garbage situation has become a big concern in cities all around the country and not only is this a political issue, but it is also a problem that has caught the attention of the general population.

And despite the re-cycling programs developed by many cities (to deal with the growing mountains of paper, plastic, glass, etc) the dangers of garbage continues to increase.

Although it takes a bit of effort on the part of the public to sort and separate their garbage, people are now beginning to realize that the future of our environment is at stake.

Reducing the hazardous waste in America's landfills starts at home.

Products used every day in our homes leach hazardous chemicals after entering landfills.

There are a number of simple steps that average consumer can take to limit the damage that many of these toxic materials are doing to the environment.

One household product that is causing a problem these days is throwaway batteries.

Each year, Americans throw away 84.000 tons of alkaline batteries.

These AA, C and D cells that power electronic toys and games, portable audio equipment and a wide range of other gadgets comprise 20% of the household hazardous materials present around the country in America's landfills.

When a battery in one of the products we use fails, we simply run out and buy a replacement.

The dead battery ends up in the garbage and no one thinks about where it goes and what happens to it after the garbage is picked up.

Sealed inside these alkaline cells are harmful materials which are not encountered by consumers during normal use.

However, when the batteries enter a landfill, the casings can be crushed, or can easily degrade, which causes mercury and other toxins to leach into the environment.

The problem of batteries in landfills is one of the easiest to solve. Using rechargeable power can significantly reduce the number of batteries which end up in landfills.

Rechargeable batteries can be used again and again, up to 1,000 times. One rechargeable cell can replace up to 300 throwaway batteries, keeping the landfill free not only from the batteries themselves, but also from the paper and plastic materials that are used to package them.

There are a number of manufacturers in the country today who deal in rechargeable products and some of them have a number of programs already in place to ensure that rechargeable batteries never enter a landfill at all.

For example, one of the largest manufacturers of rechargeable products is now offering a lifetime replacement guarantee on all round cells.

If the product ever fails to accept or hold a charge, the company will promptly replace it and recycle the used cell.

If you have an environmental agency in your area, you might like to work on this issue with them, or perhaps they already have a program set up to dispose of used batteries.

As a concerned citizen, your suggestions and input will be invaluable to them as they attempt to come up with some solutions.

May these family health insights help protect you and your family from the dangers of garbage and hazardous waste.

Warmly,

Why Are Vitamins Necessary For Our Health?

Why Are Vitamins Necessary For Our Health?
By Paul Wallace

Vitamins are organic substances that are necessary for normal health and growth in both animals and humans. If a vitamin is absent from the diet, or we don't properly absorb it, a specific deficiency disease may develop.

Even worse, our entire body may start a decline that, over a period of years, may develop into a very serious disease such as, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, etc.

That there is a relationship between what we eat and specific disease was first noted by the Englishman William Fletcher in 1905 while researching the causes of the disease beriberi. He observed that the disease was prevented by eating unpolished rather than polished rice. He concluded that the husk of rice must have special nutrients, which we know today as vitamins.

Even before this discovery, fruits and vegetables were known to prevent and cure many diseases. Even though what we now know as vitamins were unknown, many of their benefits were well recognized.

Even today English sailors are known as Limeys because, when limes were added to their diets, they no longer suffered from scurvy.

While vitamins prevent and cure some specific diseases, they also are necessary for virtually every function within our bodies.

Because of heavy advertising, we associate Vitamin C with preventing/fighting colds. In truth, Vitamin C does not prevent or fight a cold. It bolsters and strengthens our immune system which attacks the cold germs.

Vitamin C performs many other important functions within the body. A major function is synthesis of hydroxyproline, an important component of collagen and, thereby, all connective tissues.

Vitamin C is essential for growth of cartilage, bone and teeth, and for wound healing. It contributes to the structure of bones, muscles, and blood vessels.

Vitamin C helps support the immune system, aids amino acid metabolism and iron absorption.

Another vitamin - B6 - does not have a reputation as grand as Vitamin C yet it is as essential to good health. Vitamin B6 cannot claim dramatic and immediate cures for diseases like scurvy, beriberi, or colds like other vitamins, but it is known as the master vitamin in processing amino acids.

It is estimated that 50% of Americans are deficient in Vitamin B6.

The same is true for virtually every vitamin. Without a proper supply of vitamins, the body develops disease.

Some diseases, such as beriberi and scurvy, show up quickly and dramatically.

Other diseases, such as heart disease and cancer, take years to develop. They go undetected for many years until it may be too late.

Because the body is a closed system, vitamins, like every other nutrient, must come from the food we consume. The principal sources of vitamins are the fruits and vegetables we consume.

In 1936 the US Government released a report that clearly and emphatically stated that the soils used to grow our food products are so depleted of minerals that: We know that vitamins are complex chemical substances which are indispensable to nutrition, and that each of them is of importance for normal function of some special structure in the body. Disorder and disease result from any vitamin deficiency. It is not commonly realized, however, that vitamins control the body's appropriation of minerals, and in the absence of minerals they have no function to perform. Lacking vitamins, the system can make some use of minerals, but lacking minerals, vitamins are useless.

Things have not improved in 70 years. In fact, they have gotten much worse.

An entire industry has come into existence because of this fact. Vitamins are consumed by 43% of Americans, yet we continue to suffer and die from preventable diseases that were unknown 50 years ago.

Research scientists have long recommended that nutritional supplements are absolutely essential to our health and wellbeing. This is especially true when we consider our long term health.

And now the American Medical Association, in a significant break from its earlier position that vitamins only produce colored urine, agrees that every American needs to take nutritional supplements.

Not only are vitamins missing from the fruits and vegetables we consume, but antioxidants, minerals, enzymes, amino acids, essential fatty acids, and fiber are also missing.

Nutritional supplements that provide only one, or a limited number of components, can provide a false feeling of wellbeing.

It is unrealistic to believe that the food we eat is lacking only one element needed by our body.

When the body lacks one component it probably lacks many, even most, simply because the source of the components is deficient. Adding only one component to the diet not only ignores the fact that the basic diet is deficient but gives a false sense of security that we are correcting a health problem.

Paul Wallace suffered continuing pain long after an accident. Following regular treatment his doctor prescribed vitamins and minerals. He felt no relief even though he was taking 64 pills a day. This led to research which made him realize that the body needs more than individual vitamins and minerals to be healthy. He now takes one product a day and is much healthier and pain free, even though he is 72 years young.

Good health and long life can be achieved by everyone. A free 10 part course will explain why Americans suffer so many diseases and offer a simple method of regaining your health. Sign up at http://www.vitaminsimprovehealth.com/courseonhealth.htm

6 Aging Fitness and Health Myths Debunked(Myth 2 0f 6)

6 Aging, Fitness, and Health Myths Debunked-(Myth 2 0f 6)
By Dr. Leslie Van Romer

Myth #2 (of 6)

Americans Age Normally

In this country, we ouuuuu and ahhhhh when we discover that someone is 80 years old or older (unless we happen to be that someone), even if that person can barely get himself up out of a chair or resides in a nursing home.

It is always wonderful to see human beings celebrate their lives no matter what their ages, especially our wizened elderly, but our standard for the rate of aging is way too low.

According to those experts who study the aging process around the world, our bodies are supposed to last about one-hundred yearsone-hundred yearsand, more importantly, we are designed to feel, function, and move well even in our advanced years.

But look around at the people in our modern world. How many people do we personally know who have reached 100 years old? Very few, if any. Of the older people we do know, how do those people feel? How do they look? Are they full of energy? Are they mobile and pain free? Are they enjoying their lives?

Or are they suffering from pain, disability, and/or diseases that often lead to early death?

Because we are accustomed to witnessing the early decline of people around us, it is logical to think that we age normally in the United States.

The fact is that old age hits most of us at an accelerated rate and the shame of it iswe dont even know it. Therefore, we do nothing for ourselves to consciously slow down the aging process and enhance the movement, health, and fitness of our own bodies and minds.

The result: premature aging, premature diseases, premature disabilities, and often, premature death.

Preparing a Healthy Eating Menu

Preparing a Healthy Eating Menu
By Trevor John

It's one of those things we keep meaning to do but putting off. Preparing a healthy menu is one of those tasks we really should do but somehow it seems to elude us. Yet it can be fun to sit down for a few quiet minutes and decide what we're going to eat later today.

Menu planning in modern day life often doesn't get much beyond the perennial question of What am I going to eat tonight?.

When onight arrives, we're still no closer to the answer. The unhealthy option of fast food beckons as we dream about pizza or a burger or fried chicken (now helpfully renamed to it's initials to help us tune out the fried part from our minds).

It doesn't have to be like this.

Keep a few healthy staples in your fridge and store cupboard and you can rustle up a healthy meal in minutes. Often quicker than the so called fast food it's replacing.

Before you go shopping, eat.

It's been proven that we impulse buy less on a full stomach, so if you're moving towards a healthier diet make sure that you eat before you go to the supermarket.

Make a shopping list. It won't take long.

In fact, if you keep a running list attached to your fridge with a magnet and jot down food when you run out (or low) then you'll probably have your list ready made.

If you're not that organized, that's fine too. A few minutes thought will produce your list. It's not as though shops close for long (if at all) nowadays, so anything you miss is no great hardship.

When you reach the supermarket, stick to your list. You may think you look daft crossing items off your list as you go round the aisles but many other shoppers will be secretly jealous of how organized you are.

Don't buy anything that isn't on your list (unless it's something you've obviously forgotten). Be especially wary at the end of each aisle, where supermarkets traditionally tempt us to open our wallets.

Take a detour round the candy and snack aisles. It's easier not to buy these items if you don't walk past them. If you feel your trolley dragging you down them, do a u-turn!

Keep a list around your home of quick, healthy recipes that you enjoy eating. Delve through these before you are tempted to reach out for fast food.

Soon, you'll be eating healthier and likely cheaper than before. Well done!

Find a bunch of healthy eating recipes that work well for children and adults & are easy and quick to prepare as well as delicious to eat at healthy eating for kids

Your Lifestyle Can Affect Your Families Health

Your Lifestyle Can Affect Your Families Health
By Patricia McGowan

Most of us think we can get away with not taking care of ourselves or I'll do it tomorrow. Tomorrow comes and the same excuse, I'll start to exercise or eat better or lose weight tomorrow.

It should not be a secret that children as well as adults need role models and look to mirror them in their everyday approaches to life's challenges and activities.

Recently I read an article which was published by a physician at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center that was specifically talking about how depression runs in families but also more specifically that children are affected emotional by a parent who is struggling with depression themselves.

Most people as well as medical professionals are still meeting barriers between physical health and mental health. There are no barriers, each needs to be viewed as one unit. Mental health affects physical health and the opposite is also true.

The mental health issue of depression is seen more often then not in our society today. Economical issues such as fuel prices have definitely hit us all hard in our wallets. People are worried about current finances or/and losing their jobs or keeping a job that requires them to do the work of three people and then some.

We all need to look at our current lifestyle and ask ourselves a few questions which will enrich your health and your families. Ask yourself :

Is your lifestyle healthy? If no what can you do to improve it? Do you smoke, drink in excess and gamble? Do you know the health implications? Do you feel lue most days and have lost interest in things you used to enjoy? Are you inpatient and get angry quickly? Do you eat from the five food groups?Do you encourage your family to do the same. Do you know what portions you and your family should be eating and caloric intake? Do you exercise 3 times a week minimally for 30 minutes and walk 10,000 steps a day and encourage your family to do the same? Do you take at least 15 minutes for yourself everyday? Do you know stress management techniques to use when you feel you face getting red or your heart racing? Does your family and are you a good example for them?

Your lifestyle does affect your mental, physical and financial health. Decide to Invest in Yourself everyday for Life.

Recognize you are an important role model for the people around you on a daily basis. You living a healthy lifestyle and practicing what you preach will generate good healthy results around you as well and foster healthy lifestyles for years to come.

Recovery and Strengthening Long Term Programs to Sustaining Good Financial Health

Recovery and Strengthening - Long Term Programs to Sustaining Good Financial Health
By Mike Teng

Many companies came out of crisis and yet got back into trouble again. Why is it that these companies which have managed to ride out of the 'intensive care unit' fall back into trouble again? We also see such problems with patients in that they are cured of heart disease and lung ailments and subsequently went back to the old bad habits of stressful living and smoking. These companies and individuals did not continue to nurse themselves to good health through long term recovery and strengthening programs of their bodies and spirit.

Once a company has come out of the intensive care stage, it is of paramount importance that it can continue to nurse itself to health. The pace of recovery and rehabilitation can vary from patients to patients, even though they maybe afflicted by the same disease. Similar to the recovery after a surgery, a physiotherapist will start you on an exercise and rehabilitation regime such as assisting you to walk with crutches. As you recuperate in the hospital, the physiotherapist and occupational therapist will teach you the proper way to walk, eat, bath, sit and dress. They will also advise on your diet and exercise programmes when you are discharged from hospital.

The company needs to give itself time for healing and recovery. Then it needs to review and reflect on some of the hard issues relating to sales and marketing, customers and market positioning. Oftentimes, these basic issues are taken for granted and can get the company into trouble. The recovery period is also a good time for the company to recharge and reenergize itself through re-visiting its ethical values, inspirational and renewal process.

After full recovery, the battle to stay in good health is not over yet. The company needs to continue to strengthen and have foresight to transform and innovate. It must also continue to build up its cash reserves.

Some doctors believe that the immune system can defend the body against cancer and germs. The immunity is the defence system to combat diseases. During this phase, the strengthening of the immune system is key to boosting health.

The immune system for the company is the corporate culture. A dysfunctional corporate culture is one which is arrogant and full of ego. Also, the company needs to strengthen its immune system through healthy mindsets and vision. In medical science of psychosomatic, it is believed that the mental health can affect the physical health, similarly the mindset of the company can hurt the financial health. Oftentimes, in a sick company, the enemy is within.

An organisation that has regained corporate wellness needs to implement a sustained programme to remain in the pink of health. The company needs to strengthen its heart through exercising, good diet and vitamin supplements. As these are long -term measures, their benefits are normally not visible immediately.

10 Things To Do For A Healthy & Secure PC

10 Things To Do For A Healthy & Secure PC
By Darren Miller

Many who read this article may find these recommendations to be old news. However, think about the number family, friends, and associates that ask you for help fixing their PC and I believe you will understand why I chose to write this article..

This list of recommendations for a healthy & secure PC is by no means a complete list of everything you can and should do. It is however a great start if you want to keep your computer running properly for an acceptable period of time. It will also help prevent some of the most common issues related to PC security.

1. Hard Drive Fragmentation
---------------------
Believe it or not, many people have never even heard of hard drive fragmentation, or the process of Defragmentation. In a nutshell, when you install software or create files and data, the Operating System stores this data on your hard disk drive. The most efficient way of storing this data would be in one continuous disk file. However, files are not always stored this way, or are initially stored this way and later become split up, or fragmented. Because of this, when the data or file is retrieved, the hard drive must be searched in multiple places just to combine data that makes up one file. This slows things down tremendously. If you are running Windows 2000 or Windows XP, you should perform a disk defrag at least once every two weeks, more if possible. All of my systems run this process automatically once every week in the evening hours.

2. Installing Games & Disk Intensive Software
---------------------
If you're a gamer, or regularly use disk intensive software, the above Defragmentation process will help. However, you can also take another step to make things move a little faster. If you have two physically separate disk drives in your system, I suggest that you use one primarily for the Operating System and related software, and devote the other physical disk for installing games and other disk intensive applications. This cuts down on the competition for disk resources between your Operating System and other applications. There are other things you could do as well, such as configuring the appropriate type of RAID where multiple disks appear to the operating system as one big logical disk drive. This takes a little more planning to get the most out of your drives so Ill cover that in a future article.

3. Virus & Spyware Protection
---------------------
The bottom line here is; make sure you have installed some sort of anti-virus and spyware protection. Furthermore, dont just assume that the default configuration of the program is best suited for your environment. For instance, I cant tell you how many people I know whose computer has contracted a serious virus because of just one minor but very important task. When the anti-virus software pops up a message and tells you that your subscription is about to expire, dont just hit the ignore button. Take a five minute break from what you are doing and renew your virus signature subscription. Not only will this keep you up to date on newer viruses, it will allow your software package to update to newer versions. The same thing goes for spyware protection. There are plenty of free spyware protection solutions out there, none are perfect, but most do the job. I suggest using Microsofts AntiSpyware Beta package at the least.

4. Software & Hardware Firewall Protection
---------------------
If you are not using a firewall, then you are just asking for trouble. Actually, there is a significant chance that your system is already compromised if you have no firewall protection at all. Many cable/DSL router combo devices have built in firewall protection, and this is at least a good start. However, if you have Windows XP SP2, go ahead and enable the built in firewall as it will provide you another level of protection. Oh, yes, and when the system pops up a message about whether or not to allow a certain application or communication to take place, dont just hit the ok button, read it thoroughly then make a decision.

5. Installing & Uninstalling Applications
---------------------
Just about every time you install a new application or piece of software you increase the time it takes to boot your PC and in some cases decrease its performance. On thing that drives me crazy is printing software. For the life of me I cannot understand how or why printer support software could total 400MB in size, but they sometimes do. Not only that, they tend to load all kinds of unnecessary real-time running applets. HP printers are notorious for this. Be very aware of what it is you are loading and only load those components that you need. Even some off-the-shelf software packages load adware and other not so helpful applets. Also, when you uninstall software, not all the software gets uninstalled in many cases. One thing I suggest is to purchase a registry cleaner. This can dramatically decrease boot times and in many cases increase the overall performance of your PC.

6. Purchasing & Downloading Items On The Internet
---------------------
When you download or purchase any software from the Internet, make sure you pay close attention to everything you are agreeing to or checking off on the various pages that lead up to the final purchase or download. As with everything else, make sure you read the fine print. You may be agreeing to download and install something you dont need or may impact the security and performance of you PC. Also, how many more mailing lists do you really need to be on? How many Internet Explorer tool bars do you need? Most of these tool bars should be renamed to adware / spyware bars

7. Installing Operating System & Application Patches
---------------------
In a nutshell, if you are using Windows XP, make sure that automatic updates are turned on. This is very important. Microsoft releases security and bug fixes routinely and some of them are critical in nature. Something people tend to overlook is updating and patching their applications. For instance, Microsoft Office has critical security patches and performance enhancements available in the form of patches and service packs. Its not just Operating System bugs that can put you at risk, applications can too.

8. Updating Drivers
---------------------
Similar to the above, hardware manufacturers routinely update their drivers. This includes video cards, sounds cards, capture cards, system boards, you name it. Some manufacturers have started to release automatic updates for their hardware, but many have not. Make sure you check these sites regularly and when a driver update is available, install it.

9. What Do Your Children Download
---------------------
This is a really big one. I can tell you how may times I have been told by people that they have no idea how something got installed on their computer. Usually their second sentence contains one of my children must have downloaded it. The first thing that comes to mind is why do parents let kids download what ever they like in the first place. Not only can this severely impact the security and performance of your computer, who knows what your kids are getting their hands on. Do you know what one of the most frequently installed application installs I see on a teenagers machine is? Kazaa, BearShare, eDonkey, all P2P file sharing programs. I dont care what anyone says regarding how convenient and safe these applications are now, they are wrong. Monitor what your children are doing / downloading on the Internet. Install a parental control software package if need be.

10. Rebuilding Your Operating System
---------------------
If you are not familiar with system imaging software, I suggest you read up on them. One of the most popular packages is ghost and its been around for quite some time. I rebuild my systems pretty much on an annual basis. When I first configured them, I used an imaging package to create a complete image of the basic OS and application install. This allows you to not only re-install the base operating system and applications by hitting just one button, but can save you big time in the event of a system disaster.

Conclusion
---------------------
Many of my peers and other technical people will read this and say its all common sense and very basic. Well, if this is what you do for a living then yes, it is. But many people dont know these things or did know about them and have forgotten. So many PC are in such bad shape and its beyond me how the average person even deals with it. It has to be frustrating not knowing where to turn or what to do, especially if you dont have a tech friend or family member to call on. I hate to sound pessimistic, but things are not getting better for the average home or small business person. Technology should not be this difficult to maintain. The average person just wants something that will work, and stay working.

10 Secrets to a Healthy Computer and a Happier You

10 Secrets to a Healthy Computer and a Happier You
By Dan Preston

There comes a time in a persons life where no matter how much you fight it time takes its toll and we begin to slow down in how we perform our daily activities. However, in order to extend our youthful glow and energy levels it is important to eat right, exercise, and keep a positive outlook on life.

Now you may ask what has any of that got to do with Secrets To A Healthy Computer?

Well, in a way were all just like a computer. If you neglect to take care of yourself you soon will cease to function properly and the many tasks that once were easy to do now take twice as long to accomplish and often require you to rest or reboot after a malfunction.

I cant tell you what foods to eat or what exercises to perform because I am not a nutritionist. Although, with my experiences in the personal computer field I can share with you some tips of how to keep that rectangle box of circuitry that sits within sights range functioning at maximum performance as long as time will allow.

Some important steps to follow are.

Make certain that your computer is located in a well ventilated area and that all air vents are unobstructed to prevent overheating and premature failure to any internal components.

Clean out the dust build-up at least every 6 months from the inside of the computer case including case vents, power supply vents, and all visible circuitry with a few cans of compressed air that can be purchased from any major computer store or electronics outlet. This will help reduce the chances of overheating and circuitry damage.

Before cleaning just be certain to always unplug the computer from the wall outlet and never physically contact the circuitry inside the computer case to prevent damage.

Be prepared for an unsuspected failure by always making backups of any important data that you do not and can not afford to lose.

I personally keep updated backups of my website and even store the disks at a remote location away from my every day use computers just in case a disaster were to occur and my main computers were destroyed resulting in the need for those lost files.

Purchase and install a well known anti-virus program that can be regularly updated with the latest virus definitions and ran during boot-up to help protect your computer from being the victim of an unwanted infestation.

Every few months or so run your computers Scandisk program followed by the Defragmenter program to maximize the efficiency of your hard drive.

If you are not certain of how to use these utilities and being that the steps to execute these programs varies slightly from one operating system to the other it would be easiest to simply use the Help option that can be found by clicking on the START button found on your computers desktop.

The START menu will open up a drop-down-box that should display the Help option. By going here you can enter the keywords that deal with the answers to the subject you are searching for.

Run your computers Disk Cleanup utility every other week or so. If set the Disk Cleanup utility will automatically empty the recycling bin and recover some wasted disk space by removing the internet temporary files that seem to always accumulate.

Again, use the Help option if you are uncertain of how to perform this task.

Never smoke near a computer because the cooling fans will pull the smoke into the case where it can coat the inside parts of the computer with a residue which in turn can damage sensitive components.

Place the computer case in an area where it will not be accidentally kicked or bumped to prevent the loosening of cables and damage to internal parts.

Invest in a high quality surge protector to provide your computer and monitor against voltage spikes or surges that can dramatically shorten the life of your system. Just like most items in a store, You get what you pay for. So dont skimp out on this important device!

Its also not a bad idea to invest in a surge protector that includes what is called a Data Line Protector which allows you to connect your telephone lines to and serves the same purpose for the telephone line to your modem just like the surge protector does for the electrical household current lines.

Finally, if you plan on being away from home for more that a few days at a time or if there is a thunderstorm brewing in your area it is a very wise decision to always unplug all electrical lines and modem telephone lines from your system. Even with a surge protector installed it is possible that such a large voltage spike such as one caused by a lightening strike could prove fatal to any computer system.

If you follow these simple steps the outcome is a healthy computer that will stay by your side and treat you well which also results in a happier you.

Dan devotes much time working on his internet ventures. He currently has a T-Shirt store at http://www.cafepress.com/tshirtsngifts and an ebook store at http://online-book-store.net that caters to his visitors.

Source Of Life And Health

Source Of Life And Health
By Amir Baroz

A unique combination of natural resources having therapeutic effects has turned the Dead Sea area into a healing center unparalleled anywhere else on the face of the earth.

The salty seawater, with its unusually high concentration of minerals, the natural hot springs rich in minerals and sulphur, and the extraordinary climatic conditions, including uniquely filtered sun rays and an oxygen-rich dry air, due to the high barometric pressure prevailing here in the lowest spot on earth (417 meters below sea level), a therapeutic black mud all combine in providing the basis for the successful effect of the Dead Sea therapies.

Contributing to these ideal therapeutic conditions are the comfortable stable temperatures in this seaside desert most of the year, the pure unpolluted air, which is free of allergens and contaminants, while containing minerals deriving from evaporation of this inland sea that are healthy for breathing.

These natural resources have been shown to provide a beneficial effect on various illnesses, including chronic incurable diseases, and have led to the renowned reputation of the Dead Sea area as a natural spa constituting a source of promoting health and improving the quality of life.

For some 2,000 years (as the ancient texts attest), people have come to immerse themselves in the Dead Sea for healing purposes. The awareness of the healing attributes of the Dead Sea was truly reawakened at the beginning of the 1970s, when the scientific research studies in the area gained momentum and their findings were published.

All this recognition led to an accelerated development of hotel facilities, along with the establishment of health and therapy centers, operating on the basis of scientifically based findings, which as a result have turned the Dead Sea area into an attractive internationally recognized healing center, drawing each year tens of thousands of patients from around the world to find relief for their ailments and pains.

THE DEAD SEA EFFECT

The accumulated clinical experience and research data on all aspects of climatic therapy, which is based on a combination of exposure of the body to the sun with an immersion in the Dead Sea waters, has enabled physicians to establish a protocol of treatment methods referred to as Dead Sea Climatotherapy.

Medical and scientific research studies indicate that Dead Sea Climatotherapy is very effective in treating numerous illnesses, the most common being the skin disease, psoriasis. Dead Sea climatotherapy has also been found to have therapeutic effects on atopic dermatitis (skin allergy), vitiligo (loss of pigmentation), and early stage mycosis fungoides (skin cancer).

Natural springs containing minerals and sulphur, black medicinal mud, with antibacterial activity and hyperemic properties, are also found along the shores of the Dead Sea.

An anti-aging effect discovered recently in the Dead Sea minerals, as well as in the medicinal mud, has made the Dead Sea even more popular, attracting people who seek to slow down their skin aging process.

As opposed to the artificial treatments administered in the conventional clinic or hospital environment, the relaxing atmosphere during Dead Sea climatotherapy, where patients mix socially with other guests in a hotel atmosphere, has often been shown to have psychological benefits, by providing a positive affect on the patients self image and, as a result, on his or her quality of live.

THE DEAD SEA TREATMENT

The beneficial effects of Dead Sea climatotherapy on dermatological diseases, such as psoriasis, eczema, lichen planus and vitiligo, have been amply documented in a multitude of scientific publications over the past 40 years.

These studies have established that optimum results in the treatment of psoriasis, for example, are achieved by a short-term immersion in the Dead Sea water, followed in most cases and depending on the time of the year by a 1-2 gradual exposure to the sun once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Winter is not recommended for this kind of disease.

A rooftop meteorological station on the southwestern shore of the Dead Sea performs continuous UV monitoring and provides online data on the intensity of the daily solar ambient radiation. Studies with radiosensitive detector badges placed on the body have been conducted recently to determine the actual amount of radiation absorbed by sunbathers.

A special computerized program is installed in the solarium at Ein Bokek, enabling patients to regulate their initial daily exposure time by themselves, based on their skin type and the radiation intensity measured during exposure.

The actual amount of energy to which the patients body is exposed by these schemes is about one third of the amount applied in artificial irradiation therapy regimes, yet the therapeutic results of the Dead Sea natural treatment lead to a 80-90% remission, comparing favorably with artificial irradiation modes. The mean duration of remission has been studied in 64 German psoriasis patients and found to last on the average six months.

The Effects of Dead Sea Climatotherapy on the Pathogenesis in Psoriasis

A study published in 2003 examined the effects of Dead Sea climatotherapy on the pathological changes and immunological modulation in psoriatic patients skin. Histological examination of the skin found that the characteristic pathological changes found in psoriasis had normalized, while immunological studies showed a major reversal in immunological activation.

Preliminary data show that optimum results in clearing psoriatic lesions were achieved faster when Dead Sea climatotherapy is combined with topical administration of calcipotriol.

Repeat studies have shown that even severe forms of psoriasis, which otherwise require hospitalization and often need systemic medications, such as oral retinoids, methotrexate or cyclosporine, respond remarkably to climatotherapy, let alone milder forms, all without the potential side effects often associated with the administration of these systemic medications.

Dead Sea Climatotherapy is subsidized by sick funds and national health agencies: A study performed by the Swiss Psoriasis Association has shown that economically, while being equally effective as artificial treatments given to severely affected psoriasis patients, Dead Sea climatotherapy is less expensive when comparing overall expenditures for both modes of therapy.

In view of its cost effectiveness, health funds in Western European countries, such as Germany and Denemark, as well as in several Eastern European countries, subsidize Dead Sea climatotherapy for skin diseases, while Norway also subsidizes Dead Sea treatments for joint diseases.

Your Simple Guide To Healthy Younger Looking Skin

Your Simple Guide To Healthy Younger Looking Skin
By Aled Evans

Limit your skins exposure to the sun. Excessive UV exposure leads to wrinkles, discolouration, loss of tone and dehydration. Always use a sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 15.

Always drink plenty of water. This assists in flushing out impurities, fostering the development of new cells and improving circulation. Drink six to eight glasses of water a day.

Plenty of sleep at night time is essential. This is when cells renew themselves and repair the days damage. Seven to eight hours of sleep a night is ideal. Any less will result in your skin showing signs of fatigue.

Eating the right balance of foods is vital. You are what you eat. A healthy diet comprising of fresh fruits, vegetables, lean meats, fish and complex carbohydrates is recommended for most people. The better your diet the better your skin will look.

Exercise on a regular basis keeps your heart and muscles fit. It also helps your skin by improving your circulation, which eliminates toxins giving your skin a healthy glow. At least twenty minutes of aerobic exercise is recommended daily. Walking, running, swimming, cycling and dancing are all excellent aerobic activities.

Do not smoke as it destroys the underlying structure of the skin, leading to premature aging. It results in wrinkles and destroys elasticity. Over time smoking causes skin to thicken and discolour and creates lines around the mouth.

Make sure that you do not drink too much alcohol or caffeine. Moderation is the key e.g. a glass of wine is relaxing but too much wine dehydrates your system, robs you of vital nutrients and may interrupt healthy sleep patterns.

Try and reduce the stress in your life. Anxiety gives rise to a number of surface manifestations, including blemishes, hives, impaired circulation, itching, irritation and under eye circles. The key is to relax! Adopt sensible time management strategies. Participate in stress busting activities such as jogging, yoga or meditation. If stress gets the upper hand consult your doctor or a counsellor.

While all these steps will help with providing healthier, younger looking skin, it is also important to get a helping hand by getting access to quality anti aging products and vitamins and minerals with traceability.

I would be delighted to send you free information about the leading anti aging products on the market.
